    Mold for 7.62x39?

What mold would you recommend for 7.62x39 SKS and AK-47? Two cavity would be fine. First time caster for rifle. Casting fine looking boolits in MiHec MP molds for 9mm & 45acp at the moment. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

Thanks alot Hickory. You may have just cost me some very hard earned money. Like many here I started casting and loading to save money and shoot more. So, tell me. When exactly does that start? hehe

I have the NOE mold and it works very well in my CZ527 bolt gun.

While you're waiting for the NOE, take a look at the Lee C312-155-2R. It also does well if you're lucky enough to get one that casts large enough. I have to "Beagle" mine to get it to drop .313.

The Lee C312-155-2R was designed by Ed Harris for the AK's and SKS. Mine drops a 313 bullet but I had a Russian carbine that miked 317 so it may need a little beagleing. I use aluminum duct tape for that and it works OK.

Try molds for the 303british both barrels will take .311 or .312 bullets.

I like of them in my Ruger Hawkeye Compact in 7.62x39. Can't tell any difference in grouping, they both work great. C.E. Harris got it right when he made these two designs.

My Yugo Sks seems to love the .312 185 gr gc I tuned a .311 lee push through sizer up to .312.

I have beagled the same mold for my Mosin in 7.62x54r, but it seems to prefer the 150's.

A lot will depend on getting your boolits big enough to be 1 to 3 thousandths bigger than the groove.

Beagling involves opening up a mold to drop at a slightly larger diameter. There's a sticky on it somewhere if you look around. Suffice to say some aluminum HVAC tape usually does the trick.

The Lee made mold works great in my gun. 14 gr of 2400 will drop the empties right at your feet but still cycle the action. The larger lee 185gr .303 mold works good too, but may prove a tad heavy... depends on your throat too.

Shoots better than Wolf at any rate.

FWIW, the Lee mold I have is the tumble lube design. Works pretty well out of several other .30 guns too.
