So, ran 3+ pounds last week. Need to work on productivity:

Need a good way to pulverize pucks. Im using a mortar and pestle, but the chunks are too big for the coffee grinder. I need a better way to take down the pucks to manageable sizes. Any ideas on a better way?

First thing i tried was backing out the grind ALL the way and crunching the chunks to manageable sizes the adjusting back down to 3F, but it still jams up my grinder plenty.

Maybe a conical cup and ball and use the press to smash?

I took a section of 2" PVC pipe about 6"long.
Put a PVC cap on it.
Then would drop the pucks into it , and break them up into smaller chunks with a Hammer handle.
The cap I used was one with a square end.
But I am sure the ones with a slightly domed end will work just as well.

I use tile nippers or the wire cutter notch on pliers.

There is no problem so great, that it cannot be solved by the proper application of high explosives.

Baseball bat with thick aluminum pan works for me. But I do like the PVC hammer handle idea.

I've heard sometimes they are the bat, maybe bat was short for battleaxe, not sure. It came up in poker conversation last week I think.

Just a quick question, has anyone kept track of how well homemade BP stands up to long term storage? I have some commercial powder that is over 50 years old and it seems to work as well as when it was new. My guess is that as long as it was kept dry that is could last just as long, but I have nothing to back that guess up with.

The deer that I shot this past season was shot with some powder from 2012, she didn't seem to tell the difference.

My source for commercial black powder had WWll black powder in cloth bags for artillery a while back and it works as well as SWISS I bought last year. I even watched a documentary about casks of BP being found in the rubble of buildings that were hundreds of years old and still worked fine.

Once it's mixed together it works from then on unless it gets wet enough to wash the kno3 out of it.

Not around here, it's all reported now and none of the 3 dozen agri stores I have visited or called will sell to an individual, gotta have a company account that uses it (hydro-seeding) as part of their offerings. I was buying it for $17.00 a bag for the prills. DUDA has it but its $100.00 a bag delivered.

Too expensive, $1.00 a pound would be fine.

Besides pricing going up, and fears of terrorism, what kills you is the dam price of shipping these days.

A while back I shipped 3 fairly light, medium size boxes to my daughter, 350 miles away. Cost me 85 bucks!! (USPS) I truly could have driven there, AND BACK, for less...
