DAN: You mean hunting opportunites? Lots is the short answer. My friend from Alaska came down, brought some hardwawe with him, shot some wallabies with me and then he tipped over a Tahr up in the mountains. We'll look after you. I am sure Gruff would agree.

    Hmm.... Is that an invitation?
Sounds like it might be a fine time.
When is the best time to come hunt?
I'll be a nice to you as you'll let me be, or as mean as you make me be.

    Dan,

I took Jeff's words just as you did. Boy if a guy could just get over there. Australia is on the list also.

You just need the money and about two months to enjoy ones self.

To follow on from Jeff's comments, anytime of the year there is hunting of some sort or the other on offer. Preferences as to whether it is a meat hunt or for the "trophy" end of the sport can make a difference on the larger game, but for the small species Nov to Feb would be best for the numbers arround then. All animals in NZ are introduced and because we have conditions and terrain that seem to suit them, they breed quite prolifically and most have a pest animal status.

Well I can probably come up with the money, but a month off might be tough. Bet I could work it where I had 3 weeks off though!

In most countries when you a processed at customs you get a stamp in your passport. When entering NZ for hunting purposes you get purple longjohns. I don't make the laws..........

Well, I'm more of an under armor kind of guy, but I'm flexible.
Do you have many pigs there?
It's my stated goal to one day have killed pigs on every continent they are found. I'm calling it the"Ham Slam".

Thanks Jeff, I needed a laugh this morning. Looks like Dan is up to the challenge.

I think we have them here, we call them yucca's. People use them for ornamentals here in California, and trim the points off so no one gets hurt. NZ looks like a great place, thanks for the pics. Is there any upland fowl hunting on the Shaky Isles?

Dan, where I live is too far south for pigs at this time but further north there are outfitters who run hunts into some good pig country. If you go really far north you will want to be here in the dry season.

My nephew just moved to New Zeeland and hopes to do some hunting there. He did have some trouble getting his Savage 270 on the plane here in the States, but finally managed it.
There were a few issues he had to overcome once in Auckland with storage and such but got it done.
I would like to join him and have the time but has not been a good year finacially. Maybe someday.
Beautiful country and many varied species from what I have watched on television.
