    deer of the morning

while drinking coffee 40 minutes ago, a fair example of a legal antler restriction buck of 9 measurable points and 14 inches inside spread, G2's of around 7 inches came out 50 yards behind my house. Put the coffee cup down and grabbed my 44 marlin and put one through the point of both shoulders. My freezer went out 3 days ago and ruined all my meat, and i also needed a flesh test for the Ranch Dog 300gr FP. Deer went down in its tracks, so i picked up my coffee cup and continued my morning regiment. Changed out of my sleepy pants and recovered the deer. Of course, no boolit to recover. Upon skinning, VERY minimal tissue damage and very straight penetration. While this worked very well through both shoulders where about as much resistance a deer has to offer is located, for varmints is there any way to hollow point these boolits? I have heard of several models and can readily find them on the internet, but I would like to know if anyone has any thumbs up / down recommendations. I do not have money to spend on 2 or 3 models, but do not mind buying one of quality and ease of use. Also, what size hollow point should be used on a boolit with around a 78% nose?
I came into this world kicking, screaming, and covered in someone elses blood. I plan to go out the same way.

first off congrats on the buck
following the advice of Larry Gibson
I ordered a hollow point jig from Forster
he swears by them and has had very good results
I have the same concerns as you do I have the molds and want to
see what a hp will do but don't want to buy or modify the molds

If you've any questions when you get the Forster don't hesitate to ask.

Congrats on the buck, too bad about the freezer. I had that happen to me one time also so I feel for you and the loss.

Well you would really miss the taste of 200 pounds of deer steak, tenderized. (I was holding meat for 3 families)
170 pounds of wild pork steaks.
about 30 pounds of domestic pork steaks
25 pounds of beef chuck steaks 1" thick
and around 50 pounds filleted red snapper, trout, flounder, shrimp, oysters, etc...

not to mention the 100 pounds of ribbon fish and porgies for my next offshore trip.

Id be in business if buzzards taste like chicken.

I know what you mean X 101. The kids did not close the freezer door all the way one day. Most was salvaged and given away defrosted. But then I got the idea to put a hasp on the door, kinda like a safety measure. First freezer went fine the second I drilled through a refrigeration line. Not my brightest moment.

white eagle requested these pho's of a Texas buck i shot last year with my M91 Mauser converted to .35 Rem using the RCBS 30-200-FN cast of 50/50 WW/lead AC'd and HP'd with the Forster HP tool. I load them over 37 gr milsurp 4895 and the velocity is 2150 fps. The HP is 1/3 the length of the bullet nose deep.

#1; 5 rounds in stripper clip ready to load
#2; Loaded cartridge, bullet without HP, loaded cartridge with bullet HP'd
    #3; Buck with rifle
    #4; Inside entry hole
    #5; Inside exit hole
    #6; Outside exit hole
    #7; Outside entry hole.

The shot was 85 yards or so and after taking the shot the buck just staggered real hard trying to keep his feet under him about 20-25 yards to his right, toward me, and fell. There is actually less damage than the entry wound would have us believe. The blood cleaned of very nicely and you could litterally "eat right up to the hole", quoting Elmer Keith I believe.

It's a shame about those ribbon fish. They're an expensive bait around here, but those smoker kings love them.

airborne... I don't think you need to hollow point.
Put the boolit throg the shoulders and anything you hit will drop , as did your deer.
Works on pigs to 250 pounds easily...
