The cases are definitely too thin! They hold 26-27 grains of water, instead of 25. They also weigh at least 10 grains less.

PPU recalled all of their 6.5 Grendel brass. I called them and said they don’t cover once fired cases. They didn’t blow up the first time, technically... The seller is going to send me a batch with a...

One of the cases blew up on me yesterday! I’m okay, though. I was wearing safety glasses, and felt the extractor bounce off my head. Gas went everywhere. The mag blew out the bottom and bulged out!...

I tried One Shot, but tight cases would stick. I use the Hornady liquid or even boolit lube, especially when reforming cases.
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
Sounds like a bent pin or off center hole. I’ve loaded PSD brass hundreds of times. Are you using enough lube?
Forum: Cast Boolits
If you load a caliber that they fit, why melt them? Load up a few and see how they do. If they’re junk, then melt them.

I shot and fireformed all the brass. I had to manually feed some of them, but now they chamber perfectly when reloaded. The chamber stopped scratching them, so I got all the burrs out.
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
The bolt and chamber are both Grendel II. The lugs lock perfectly, and the extractor works fine. The cases were sticking in the rough chamber.
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
I looked at the chamber with a bright light after I lapped it. The shoulder angle is just a .001 or so less sharp now. I guess it had a few burrs, and they were digging into the brass. I shot a...

That is one cool looking round. It looks like a 357 Sig and a .50 Beowulf had a baby! :)
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
I fixed it! Some of the Grendel brass didn’t want to chamber, and I realized the chamber may have burrs. I polished it and the feedramps really well. Tiny bits of metal came out. I tried the “plink”...

I shaved the shellholder down about .004, and it helped. They chamber, but only extract when fired. The Grendel brass I found is PPU, with large primers. It has the Grendel headstamp, but has the...

I polished the shellholder. There was a lot of slop between it and the ram. The shoulder is being pushed back more now, and it will chamber if I force it. It’s probably just a bad batch of brass. I...

I found some Grendel brass, and the dimensions are the same. It must be the shoulder. I got a couple 7.62s to chamber, and they fireformed. They chamber now. It’s a 6.5 Grendel Type 2 barrel and...

I’ve just built an upper in 6.5 Grendel. I found some once fired 7.62x39, and resized it to 6.5 Grendel. The neck, base, and shoulder are correct, but it still won’t chamber. I’m using a Lee sizing...

I’ve been finding these at ranges, too. They’re Russian-made Wolf/Colt ammo. They’re .40S&W, mainly, with possibly some .223 and .308.

I was a little shocked. I usually just find award/gift pewter ware, usually engraved. This is the first time I found anything like this.
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
I put it in the oven and slowly turned it up. It’s not perfect, but within 15-20 degrees F. I did some more research, and found out 70/30 lead/tin melts at 504F. It’s probably that or very close.

I found some old plates that say “Made In Holland”, but are far heavier than pewter. I think they’re mostly lead with some tin. Acid doesn’t make bubbles on them. I heated one up, and it melted right...

I think I found some actual English pewter. The touch marks look to be late 18th century. Someone put a label on with “appraised 1790” on it. I’m not melting this!
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
I put battery terminals in my melt all the time. If they’re soft, and easy to scratch, they’re definitely lead.
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
It has a dark patina, but it’s very shiny where it’s scratched. The metal is very soft, almost like lead. I’ve scored a lot of pewter at this store lately, but this is much heavier than anything else...

It says absolutely nothing. I guess I’ll buy one and acid test it. If it passes, I’ll get them all.
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
I found some plain plates with no hallmarks, but they scratched with my fingernail, and bent easily. They have a label saying “Made in Holland”. They are really heavy, too. I’m tempted to go back...
