Could you tell me what Australian timber that you use for charcoal
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Have been using recycled battery lead for nearly 50 years and is good lead at the right price
Forum: Gas Checks
In straight walled cases like 45/70 and others, i have put a gas check up side down, behind the the projectile and seated it,done this hundreds of times with no problems

I use a different cast bullet with smokeless, RCBS 45-500 bps and wheel weight hardness works for me- 44 grains Varget -1475 fps
This is for Australian shooters wanting a light accurate load--15 grains AP100 and NOE 265 gr hollow point- sized .432 --lubed with Jakes 50/50 will put 10 shots into 2 inches at 100 yds, has little...
In a Marlin XLR 30/30 I use the same NOE 195 grain bullet, but comes in at 200 grains. Anyway the most accurate load for me is 31.5 gr of AR2208, which i believe is similar to Varget
Hope you have better luck than i did with the 460350VG, it will not chamber in my Marlin XLR
Forum: Cast Boolits
I also use that mold but spec at .462, nothing wrong with frosted bullets, all shoot good in marlin xlr
I have that mold and in the Marlin XLR 45/70 ,it will not chamber unless seated below the crimp groove.Could just be my rifle, hope yours is better
Forum: Cast Boolits
I have a Marlin XLR in 45/70 that i cast pure lead and shoot 5 shot groups at 100 yards at 2 to 3 inches, and works great on wild pigs. Accurate Molds 460-355R at .462 lubed with alox 50/50 and...

I have had this problem with Accurate molds as well, but only in cast iron ones,it appears that the mold is not closing properly and you can see light through the closed mold halves. My solution was...
I bought mine new in 1987 and used as above in 357 mag revolver with 357 cases and 3.7 grains of bullseye,in a ransome rest ,would shoot groups at 25 mts better than any hollow based wadcutter.

I have a marlin xlr in 30-30 and use 26 grains of ADI 2206H with accurate molds 31-190D, when lubed and gas checked is 200 grains, and is accurate and not hot in my rifle.

Good work,I often wonder what effect if any that different number of grooves in a barrel would have on the same tests that you have done
Forum: Cast Boolits
Hi Larry, great post, look forward to the test result. I agree with your RPM limit on cast bullets, but my own tests have shown a lower rpm limit for best results. I wonder what effect different number...

I have a Marlin XLR 30-30 and its groove is .310, Tom at Accurate Molds made one for me at .312,in the catalog as 311-165DG ,all he did is make it bigger 312-165DG no extra cost you just say what...

I buy my starline brass from Cleavers at Margate
Forum: Leverguns
I have the Winchester 94 and the marlin xlr in 30-30,both shoot good with cast bullets, however the 94 needs .310 bullets to shoot well but the xlr needs .312
I have all three and are all close to .3095 bands and .300 nose and are cast from range scrap
Forum: Reloading Equipment
I have done this by using RCBS full length sizer die and lightly lubed starline cases, just push them in and out and trim to length, failure rate is about 10%,hope this helps
I have used this bullet in a Omark 44B in 308 winchester and it is a very accurate one, best accuracy for me was obtained at about 1800 fps, hope this helps you
My Marlin XLR likes the Accurate molds 31-165D but changed to cast .312
In Australia the wait for Toms molds is about 5 weeks, very good
I also use the accurate molds 46-355R and it has taken very large pigs here in Australia,38 grains of AR2207 is a mild accurate load in my marlin XLR
I had Tom put the dd ring on the nose of about 6 or more 30 cal bullet designs, some rifles shot better, but only just, compared to the same design without the ring, regardless of speed or twist,hope...
