Nothing at all wrong with those methods. I do it the same way without any problems using a double spider and a floating reamer holder I built for myself.

You can use a tougher alloy and get both deep penetration and expansion also. Or shoot 54 caliber round balls. Nothing walks far with a 1/2" hole in it. Of course then there's drifting to worry about...

Very nice! I've been kicking the idea around myself. I'm also thinking of going with a 7-30 Waters. Did you fit your barrel to the stub from the original? If not, how did you deal with the underlug?...

So if I'm following your project explanation correctly, you're planning to do a 45-70 conversion on this?
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
There's a thread on this forum in the archives about a 'Billy Bob hardness tester'. I just go by that. I don't need perfection, an educated guess is plenty close enough for me.

As mentioned above, sounds a lot like Hamburger Soup only with vegetable swaps.
Good stuff!
That's true. I own a 44Mag but download it with 10 grains of Unique and shoot cast. It's more than needed.
I honestly don't know what useful purpose a 480 would fill. There are no moose or bears apart from black bears anywhere around. I hear rumors of mountain lions but I seriously doubt I'll ever see one...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Given that Whitetail deer and Black bear are the largest game animals I'll encounter locally this is WAY more than I'll need but that's OK with me.

When the time comes, I plan to go with a heavy bullet (> 400 grain), hollow point in soft lead (< 10 BHN) and black powder velocity.
If I can hit it, the target animal will have a VERY bad day.

You might try powder coating. Doesn't cost a lot to get started and might be just the ticket for something like this.
Depending upon the severity of the pitting, that is.
Tape on scope rings is NOT a method I'd recommend. It's a Band-Aid to mask an underlying alignment issue.
This sort of thing is why people have accuracy issues they can't solve.
Not that it...

The only thing I would add is this is a question only the person in the mirror can answer and it's something that can only be answered over a period of months.
We've all had bad times. They...

I've an H&R Topper in 20 gauge full choke that will flat light you up with #6 shot high brass.
Plastic butt plate and *might* weigh 6lbs.

Actions should always result in consequences. Perhaps she'll relocate to an area with many other Karen's. Where she'll fit right in.
So.... you're dealing with mass-produced rifles, mass-produced scope bases, mass-produced scope rings and mass-produced scopes. There will always be slight imperfections.
Either research scope...

I'd look at the thread containing the video. That bore is heavily damaged. Looks like a mine field. It's really, really bad. Again, when you have pot holes and missing land sections smoothing out the...
Forum: Single Shot Guns
Interesting. Do you happen to recall the source of that information? I'd like to read about it just for my benefit. I'm kinda a nerd when it comes to stuff like that.
Forum: Cast Boolits
Agreed. Not to mention the length of the testing. 1 MOA at 50 yards does NOT automatically mean the same at 100yds. Let along longer distance.
Forum: Single Shot Guns
Not really. H&Rs use an underlug design that doesn't allow for a set-back. Besides, at least 1/3 of the barrel is heavily damaged and the chamber end is where the damage is located.

The OP has a video posted in another thread. That barrel literally has sections of the lands missing and corrosion potholes instead. It's some of the worst corrosion pitting I've ever seen.
That...

I don't know it to be fact, but I've read companies have wanted to build shipping hubs using EV trucks. When they requested the necessary power structure the local municipality thought it was either...

Did you perhaps water-drop these bullets? Had a problem with that myself. So that's why I'm asking.

Our mail goes through the USPS mail center in KCMO. Right now they have 70 positions open.
Might have something to do with it.

I know you have another thread going but I'll chip in anyway.
If you're shooting 100 yards and the barrel is pitted it'll just mess with your mind. Cast or jacketed. Particularly if you look at...
