I'll probably try re-slugging them. I actually cast some of the Lee TL356-124 bullets last night, so it would be simple to re-do them (again).
On the tight-spot possibility, that was one of the...

Not sure what you mean..? I used a plated lead bullet, driven thru from the chamber to muzzle end. Are you saying that a pure lead (non-plated) bullet would give a different measurement?
Forum: Cast Boolits
I'm a long-time reloader but am completely new to casting. I slugged seven different 9mm barrels today (four factory and three aftermarket threaded), and was surprised at the measurements. If it...

Full disclosure - haven't cast any boolits yet. Have acquired the equipment and materials, and have cleaned up the raw lead (mostly COWW's) into muffin-pan ingots. Hope to do some actual casting in...

Is that 75 grains a typo..? (Never loaded anything lighter than 110 in 38 or 357 myself.)

Not 'in' the reloading room, but 'for' the reloading room; ordered a bunch of X-Lox liquid lube to make up some Ben's Liquid. Have a good number of ingots made up and plan (at least, hope) to do my...

I don't load .44 magnum, but in .454casull (ruger srh), 296 is my go-to powder almost always.
Definitely heed the warnings of others above; do not over- OR under-charge cases with this kind of...

Probably 'mostly' ended, for most people in most areas. I'm just now getting into casting after reloading 30+ years, but have had surprisingly good luck finding coww's pretty close to free. I'm in a...

Fwiw regarding the johnson's one-step, be sure to just keep your eyes open as you roam. I was in a Lowe's today picking up some work-related things and thought - "hey, wonder if they have any in the...

SC Johnson U.S. contact page: https://contact.scjbrands.com/en-us
Don't know the Canadian contact info.
I'm just getting into casting and have been reading a LOT on this site; for which I'm glad & grateful. After reading on different lube approaches, I tentatively plan to start with BLL sprayed on, so...

Good deal. Just ordered some of the Johnson's liquid wax. For whatever reason (increased demand by people on this forum perhaps...?) it seems to be out of stock a lot of places and even...
Forum: Boolit Lube !
Just to be sure I'm not missing something (because this sounds WAY too easy)...
Take a mixture of 60/40 (say 3 oz and 2 oz) of Alox to the Johnson's liquid wax, mix well in a spray bottle, spray...

That's a big part of its attraction for me; the ease & simplicity of it. If it uses a bit more, so be it. We're talking pocket-change differences per thousand I would assume.

Full disclosure - even though I've been shooting for over forty years and reloading for over 30, I'm a TOTAL neophyte when it comes to casting. I'm going to start casting bullets strictly for...

Holy carp - 37.8 of 296, not bullseye. That'd get somebody killed. I'll correct above; thanks.

I have the 20" stainless puma in .454 and love the stupid thing. I mostly use .45LC's in it, but my most-used .454 load is 37.8 WW296 on a 240 XTP-Mag runs 2430 fps, or more than 3,100 ft/lbs of...
Yeah, I've considered a new chronograph, but haven't done it. Always something a little higher on the priorities list. :-| Like the bamboo skewer idea, we have those on hand for grilling shish-kabobs...
Ran my initial trial rounds thru it finally to see how they'd do. Fifteen rounds each of Titegroup & Bullseye (five each with charges of 6.5, 7.0, and 7.5 grains, per powder) with a 160-grain rnfp...
Interesting; didn't know that, but it makes sense, thanks.
But doesn't that unburned gas (rather than unburned powder) still translate into wasted energy though?
I guess the way I should...
Fwiw, it's not that I don't think they ignite until sometime later, it was more an issue of "when do they finish burning?" to me. Trying to get the velocity without the massive blast, which is...
I'll give it a shot (so to speak... 8-) ) I have several slow powders on hand that I use for other calibers, and I'll give it a try. I use a lot of 296 in the .454, so I've got quite a bit of it on...
Not following you with the "should shoot better than that" thing..? Not having accuracy problems, just low-velocity and wasted-powder problems. A slower powder from this short a barrel would actually...
Just fwiw, this may help demonstate why bullet weight & velocity is such an issue with this gun:
http://www.taurususa.com/images/imagesMain/450SS2C.jpg
There's just almost no barrel length to...
Strictly for velocity reasons; or maybe it's more for "lack of barrel length" reasons. The gun has a 2 3/4" barrel, and the last 3/4" or so of that is ported; so there's basically only 2" of barrel...
