Rimfire cleaning, even on my Anschutz, I just pull a "bore snake" thru it couple times a year. Getting the barrel "spic & span" clean does not help...

As long as your tube is fairly concentric to the bore no loss of accuracy, what your trying to make , we call 'em "bloop tubes" ...... lots of guys add them to the rifles to Extend the sight radius...

mild steel otherwise know as low carbon steel will not take a heat treat with out interduction of some sort of carbon to it..... they make case hardening compounds you heat part and dip in or you...
