i think the forming rod as it is called might be pressed into the bottom piece. there is no way he made that all one piece. you have a better view of the top and bottom and sides?

the forming rod is machined too small. it should be about .283, not .271. the disc punch looks like it needs sharpening.it should be making clean cuts. i have built ed smith style single stroke check...

i have built 4 check makers. all ed smith design single stroke.built a 22 caliber, 243, 270, and 30 caliber check makers. i make mine so the check is a snug fit on the shank of the bullet.

for not having a lathe i think you did pretty good. i am currently building a one step check maker, ed smith design. it will be used in an arbor press.

i use whatever sawdust i have on hand in the shop. oak,pine, maybe a little cherry or other wood. works great.

just got a single cavity 243 mold this week. when casting i noticed that i have to run the mold and pour fast and hot to get good bullets. is this a thing with small caliber molds? i have never cast...

just bought a 243 rifle and would like to get a mold for it. i did not know that lee does not make a 243 mold. the RCBS 95 grain FP is rumored to be discontinued also as everybody is out of stock....

i would not load any hot loads. just plinking and maybe a deer load. probably going to get it drilled and tapped for scope as well. will have to buy a mold and some dies for it.

i have afew questions for the mauser guys on here. i just bought a kar 98 mauser that has been sportered. older bishop stock that needs to be refinished, not to bad though. made in erfurt in 1915....

i am amazed at how many different mausers there are out there., also how many countries made them.there is everything from stunning to good to not so good.

the rifle says GEW 98 on the left side. still have not shot the rifle yet. been real busy with work.

i did a chamber cast and took really good measurements with starrett tools. looking at the lyman book if they used a 7x57 go no go gauge when they reamed it my measurements would not line up like...
