Forum: Cast Boolits
There is one thing not mentioned yet. Some sprue plates have very dull cutting edges. This can smear lead even when it has cooled down a bunch.
You can sharpen them with a small round file, or...
Do you use glue or just the heat to melt the hull?
Is this to get more consistent ignition?
Sounds like you need to cast faster.
You should start a new thread with pics as this is a new mold.
Swapping sprue plates helped a bit, sanding the area flat under the SP bolt fixed it. So now i know it is a SP problem.
Yes to onesonek and casterofboolits. I also suspected warped sprue plates. Before I sent them back I tried fixing one of them by sanding the SP flatter. That helped some, then I used the...
I recently bought 2 Lee 6 cavity molds: 429-240-2R, and TL452-230-2R.
The problem with them is the base of the boolits would have fins on them.
I returned them to Lee and got 2 new molds back,...
Finally something other than Bluedot. 8-) Too cold in Canada to hunt with bluedot.
Does the beeswax hold the slug as firmly as a crimp?
I'm just wondering how it would work with slower powders to give proper ignition.

What about using "Ruger only" load data for the 45LC in the Puma?
Just an example:

You can't cut a barrel less than 18" here, but it can be manufactured to any length.
No. :groner: I am not hunting deer, this would be for coyote/rabbit.

camerl2009, most people besides you think it is ok to use lead shot data for buckshot. And you just admitted that you have done it yourself. Like the loads you made, the buckshot in my loads will...
If there was buckshot data I would follow it. Can you find #1 buckshot data?
I want to load 16 #1 buckshot in a 2 3/4 hull using 1 1/2 ounce load data from Hodgdon.
Rem. RP12 and WAA12R are the wads listed. Will they leave enough room with a 1/8 card under the shot?

Polish all the machine marks out of the pin with 800 grit sandpaper. Then make sure the pin is HOT before your first cast.

I shot another one into water today. It also bounced off the wood after the water and hit the wood sideways.
The rifling marks go way up on the nose. :?:
The 2 on the right are the one I shot...

It went through 4 jugs then bounced off a piece of wood (willow). It hit the wood sideways. I think it somehow got longer (and narrower), maybe from going sideways in the water.

Yes, that boolit was shot into water. They aren't water dropped.

I shot one into milk jugs filled with water. Alloy is ACWW with about 2% tin. 17 gr. of titegroup, that should be about 1300 fps (didn't check).
The results are disappointing.
