why bother? Magtech solid brass shells are readily available. No muss no fuss. They are way cheaper than cutting up a 50bmg case for something that is not nearly as good.

Never been real keen on loading at the range but I like my spartan and spar-t presses. If I want to watch tv its on the wall in the garage. I mounted an old one out there and it comes on...

Seagiant, Got your letter today. Thanks a bunch. I will be getting metal/supplies on Monday. I will keep everyone posted when I get this figured out.

I just use an old gravy ladle I found in my folks basement. I drilled through it and screwed it to a longer wooden handle. I also formed the spout a little so that it pours lead better. I love free.

I love both my spartan and my spar-t. I am too young to have bought them new but I searched them out specifically. I like the set screw vs snap in because it keeps the shell holder from rotating. I...

Great. I think that because I am going to use my ram prime setup for guts of this press I will use a "lifter" setup anyway especially because I can trim the lifter if needed to achieve the proper...

Thanks a ton! One more question for now. Does the ram ride directly on the cam or is there a separate lifter in the cylinder that holds the ram?

Seagiant, PM sent last night did you get it? Thanks, TC

This is really interesting.
I definitely think that tumbling is the way to go. I think part of the appeal to me is less work and un-sticky bullets and the ability to run them faster without a...

Pressman, Thanks for the heads up but if I bought one more thing my wife would kick my you know what. I just bought a lyman spar-t to match my spartan and have the lachmiller press also. With our...

I have always wanted to try one. I have a lachmiller press as an extra and it works great and is very well built. But finding one of those primers is next to impossible at least one thats...

I used to use steel polishing shot, barrel & pin mix for polishing things in college in a metals studio. Worked well for getting the soldering grime off of copper/brass/silver. Never really polished...

Well Dr.Skinner is the man behind Skinner Sights. They are all the rage over at Marlinowners.com. Dr.Skinner sold the sight co. to another MT guy a few years ago and started selling presses as his...

I really like that press but I think it would be better designed as a double press so you can put both dies in for a caliber and have them both setup. Or have a third die hole for and expander powder...
I don't discount the fun of making your own lee loader but I think that there is a really romantice idea of loading shells "in the field" among many shooters. Howerver I think you could bring many,...

I would really like to start reloading these also if anyone else has anything else more basic to add about the details of loading these magtech brass shells.

I read an old set of directions for the 55 and its markings are even supposed to be grain graduations for some types of black powder.

I just painted an old Lachmiller press wih hammer finish paint and it turned out ok. If I was to do it again (which I might) I would use the wrinkle paint sold at auto parts stores. It comes in red...

I like that All American very very nice. I am going to get going on the painting as soon as its warm enough in my shop ( and I find the right paint).
Forum: CB Loads / Military Rifles
I will anneal some of the the case necks and see if it helps, but all of this brass is once fired so it should be ok already.
I also think the bullets are dropping about .313-.314 from this mold.

I have been seating all of the cast bullets without gas checks as reduced loads I dont have any gas checks yet. Some of the cases I didn't bell some I used a lee loader and just gave them a quick...

Guys, I am a little new to reloading. I started with lee loaders for my 45/70 and 38special and recently got together a real loading setup. I did this especially so I could reload for my 1891 Mauser...

Guess it's more of a modernization/refurbish than a restoration, I don't really want the old color scheme. I am going to replace the red grip with a ball handle also.
Linotype- Thanks, I will try...

I picked up an older lyman 55 measure and spartan press. The spartan is in ok shape not great and the 55 has seen better days. I was thinking about giving them a new updated paintjob. The new...
