Well after injuring myself while removing the 3' snow drift in front of my pickup I'm laid up for the short term. When the disc retracts back into my spine I should be good to go. Lol. And of course...
I've loaded a few shells up and was planning on shooting them today (sunday) but the weather is so crummy I'll have to postpone testing until the wind and freezing rain dies down.
So his is what I ended up with. It’s a 1oz slug with a .680” dia

It’s .722” with the shotcup petals attached and slides into the rifled barrel without too much force at all. I’m going to...
Lol Ive done that before too.
I have casted my own sabots and made aluminum jackets for them before too

Here it is beside a non compressible partition gold slug.

Only problem...
I will measure the OD of the slug when it hardens and see what I have. If the diameter is too large to fit down the rifled bore with the shot cup petals attached then I'll reassess the situation....
Well we cast all different kinds of slugs ourselves from molds purchased from Lee to custom cast molds. Ive seen many different types of things shot out of a shotgun here and on other sites. Just...

So using the JB Weld as a void filler and the wad as a mold I mixed it up and put 1oz of #4 buckshot in the cup. Then took a cut hull band to stop the cup from over expanding....
Agreed with the mold idea but I was thinking shooting these thru a rifled barrel . My thinking was a cylinder shaped lead/glue slug that could fracture on impact with a large deer but still penetrate...
I've used my very limited google-fu skills(unsuccessfully) to find something that resembles a wax/lead type slug but substituting JB Weld in the place of the wax. I've watched Taoflaedermous's videos...
That's a neat old box with reinforced corners DCM.

I've killed coyotes in the spring while turkey hunting when the coyotes stalk my decoys. They drop instantly with a 1-7/8oz load of #6 at 40yds. So that got me to thinkin....
In the winter months...
My knowledge of slug design is quite limited so take this idea with a grain of salt please.
I think the slug looks great and I personally would powder coat them as its a full bore size to stop any...
Thanks fellas. For what it's worth these boxes are still full of live shells.
Do you think I should shoot em off or just keep on keeping them?
Yes that's more like I was thinking! Thanks Mike!
Would be interesting to send a couple dozen different rounds and have them tested for chamber pressure and muzzle velocities
Sorry I thought they did independent testing.
There's a page on their site http://closefocusresearch.com/calculating-barrel-pressure-and-projectile-velocity-gun-systems
But now I'm looking more...
Just wondering if anyone here has used a service to pressure test your own shotshell or slug loads?
I found this private company during a quick search.

Truer words were never spoken!
I'd like to order in some BPI gas seals, felt and cork bases with some nitro cards and do away with shot wads altogether, but that might be going way out there in...
Yes those are blown red WW wads. I've had great waterfowl loads with them in the past with 571 and 540 powder. Maybe the 700x is too fast for them?
I'll make some changes and give it another go.
For some reason I've been having a heck of a time posting the pics on here today. Some pics are way bigger than others and I'm not savvy enough to figure them out. Sorry if they're too small now....
I noticed that a couple of the red wad bases from the foster slugs were blown through

and also the wad was trying to push up inside the hollow base. Next time going to get filled.

I braved the +2c rain and sleet today to try out the new slug loads and see what kind of groups I get. So I loaded up some shells with 700x and used a few tricks I learned from Longbow and Ajay. The...
Ok I took a recipe from an old DuPont powder manual for buckshot loads. It calls for 19 grains of 700X powder and a WW12R red wad AND 23 pellets of #3 buck or 529 gr.
So I removed the wad petals...
