just habit; started with a .357 mould many years ago and just contined on with the .22 mould.

Alloy for the .22 mould is a lot harder than the handgun alloy.... should try opening sprue plate with...

I have a hollow point mould, so I need to remove the pin before opening the plate; by then alloy is hard and just will not open with a gloved hand.... yes, I also use bullplate, an excellant product.

yes; I use a 1 " wooden dowel and give a reasonable " smack "

The sprue plates that I installed are identical to the original plate; was not aware the newer plates are thicker.

my boolits were developing burrs on the base, which had to be filed down.
Alloy is hard; 80% wheel weights; 18% linotype; 2% tin.

I've had to replace my sprue cutter plate twice on my lyman 225415 mould in the last 4 - 5 years.... granted, I've cast several thosand boolits during that time ( 4 - 5 thousand ) but was wondering...

My first time using .22 Gator annealed gas checks; I noticed the base of the check is sometimes wrinkled coming out of the Lee sizer die;
so much so that some boolits will not stand up straight.

yes; this is just as good as JPW and I'm resuming my .223 loads at 2000 fps.
I use the 45/45/10 and find it awesome.

thanks for all the suggestions.. I e mailed Lyman and they responded with " buy a mould rebuild kit"; which indicates a new sprue plate.

I think that maybe my alloy might be contaminated with some...

base of the boolit has fins protruding after being cut with the sprue cutter.
do I need a new sprue plate?

Kevan; I had Buckshot hollow point a lyman 225415 and I 'm quite happy with my cast out to about 140 yards.
A .223 C Z 527 shoots about 1 - 1 - 1/2 " with pistol primers and 6 grs. of 231.
