Best shot I ever made was 13,261 yards (I paced it off myself), across the Snake River canyon near Twin Falls ID, at a running ground hog, with a 22 LR, and open sights. Swear to god!

In my experience, most don't want to take the time. What's important to them is getting ammo cheap not learning a new skill.
But my typical response is "you realize you're asking me to break the...

Ah, it sucks that you have forgotten what type powder it is but is the risk of getting it wrong worth the reward?

My guess is that there are not as many double charges as one might think. The recurring theme I take from most of the above comments is to have a process and follow it religiously.

All of my brass gets trimmed every time (bottle neck only). The reason is so its consistent from loading to loading.
Forum: Reloading Equipment
I have had the same experience with 357 brass that had been primed but had not been finished loading and then stored and moist conditions.of the 150 or so that I received about 20 of of them were so...

Cast my first 45-70 bullets tonight. Used the Lee single cavity 405 gr HB single cavity mold.
The bullets measure .4585 and weight an average of 398 grains. I'm new to the 45-70 and to casting for...

There are stories of black powder guns found after decades of neglect that would still fire. No personal experience here though.

I use the Lee trimmers ( <$10.00/cartridge) and my drill press. The cutter and pilot is chucked into the spindle. I do the same thing with the chamfer reamer. Works pretty slick, it's easy and fast.

+1 on this suggestion. These are all I use, in conjunction with a drill press.

I haven't primed on my single stage for a couple years now; since I bought my RCBS hand primer.
Still have several primer arms, all of the sleeves and the auto primer feed & tubes pictured in the...

You are a better man than I.
But that does give me hope that one day, in a store near me, I will again find the powder I need.

I haven't always wanted a 45-70 but I did pick up a used Marlin 1895SS last week. Shot it for the first time yesterday with Hornady 325 TSX ammo. That was a new experience.
Looking forward to...

Quite true. But given his pistol of choice and the over the counter molds that have been recommended, he is likely to be disappointed with his results, don't you think?

I'm not a hoarder either. I prefer to think of the brass, lead, primers, bullet molds, powder, guns and safes as part of a well diversified investment portfolio. I hope I have more than I'm ever...

Recently acquired a Marlin 1895SS in 45-70. Keeping an eye out for a matching pistol :bigsmyl2:

ah, I'm thinking it's most likely your tin. flux that stuff back into your melt. Your bullets will thank you for it.

Have you slugged the bore on your 96 yet? I own a 96D and my bore measures .4035. I've also had the opportunity to slug the bores on two other 96 barrels. Both of them both measured over .403.
