I planned to do the same thing to my Lyman foster mold except I was going to leave an area on the sides untouched thus leaving a lube groove.
Any opinions on if this would be of any advantage?

Just for argument sake say the full bore slug does lead the barrel.
I forgot to mention in my earlier post what I was thinking in regard to a possible leading issue.
When milling the mold larger...
I have already inquired at my local machine shop about milling this mold out to my bore diameter (about .729" - .730") and they said it was easy to do.
Does anyone foresee any issues and what would...
The exact same problem I encountered with the same components although I used a genuine Winchester WAA12F114 wad.
The dimples on the outside even gave me hard chambering.
What I did was cut the...
I remember reading about leaving the strings attached in a Handloader magazine a couple years ago.
If I remember correctly it wasn't overly successful.
I never had much success with ladle pouring in this mould.
I switched up to a bottom pour lead melter and had instant success.
I have the Lyman Foster slug mould and find it grossly undersized also.
I was thinking of getting mine machined out to bore size ( 0.729" - 0.730" for my gun) so I checked at my local machine shop...

I just finished clipping apart about 5 -6 Lbs #4 buckshot from my Lee mould. This Anvil Cut (from Home Hardware in Canada) uses a heavy duty razor blade and works fairly well.
I have tried both but prefer the 16 Ga as it is a bit wider to give a better base for the slug to sit on.
However, I find the 16 Ga causes some wads to bulge slightly resulting in the wad/slug combo...
The Claybuster wads I have (WAA12SL) don't have the rib inside. They are 20+ years old so perhaps Claybuster changed them?
I found the 12S3 to be way too tight in my gun as well. My gun measures approx. .729" - .730" so I never tried the 12S3 with the Lee slug.
My findings:
12S3 (genuine): too tight
RXP12 (genuine):...
For me in Canada primed hulls are very difficult (if at all) to find and are not allowed to be shipped by mail.
Courier rates are very high and would make it impractical for me.
I have a Lyman roll crimper and have tried just about every hull out there without any conditioning/trimming and found ridged sided hulls (as opposed to smooth sided hulls) gave me the best results....

The uncut wad (left) measures about 1.68" OAL
The cut wad (right) measures about 1.6" OAL
Cup depth on uncut wad (left) measures about 0.7"
Cup depth on cut wad (right) measures about...
Sorry but no.
The Lee data claims 1450 f/s @ 36.0 gr of HS6 so would have to estimate from that.
The 7/8 oz slug mould is on my wish list.
Perhaps Santa will bring me one.
I am in the early stages of testing the LEE 1 oz. key driven slug in my smoothbore 12 Ga and I thought I would post some results. In my opinion the groups are OK, they could be better or they could...
I trim the Top Gun hulls approximately 1/8" as there seems to be so much inconsistency in their lengths.
The Gun Club Hulls were not trimmed at all.
The Spin Doctor was very difficult for me to...

First pic is of Spin Doctored Top Gun Hulls.
Second pic is of roll crimped Spin Doctored Top Gun Hulls. They are not perfect but OK.
Third pic is of roll crimped shot...
I too have the same data but am some what confused on exactly what SDC buffer is as compared to other buffers?
Thanks
Here are the wad styles in question from post #4 with the LEE 1 oz. slug installed.
If the price is right grab them!
There are 2 recipes using WAA12SL here using the LEE 1 oz. slug.
3-ring binder covers make good card wads.
Ditto for paint by number boards that the kids never seem to finish.:-)
