Forum: Cast Boolits
I don't really have a dog in this fight, but I will share my thoughts. Personally, ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL (which it only is sometimes) I freely use target load jacketed data for starting points for...
Yeah that Accurate one is close. Prefer the two lube grooves though.
And NOE has some close also but the closest is much heavier, listed as 396 grains.
Thanks.
Bought a few of theses boolits at a LGS for my Trapdoor. They measure .460, 346 grains GC’ed and lubed. I’d love to have the mold but don’t see a Lyman or RCBS equivalent. Any ideas? Sorry it is...

Hi George,
What is your OAL with that 311284? Trying to dial in my newly acquired A4 and finding the 311299 ogive a bit too fat to chamber, though I think it is swelling through too much GC/sizing...

Ok, where are you guys getting 4759???
Beware of Simple Green on old steel in the ultrasonic. Cleaned a hammer assembly from late 19th century revolver. Came out beautiful fire blue color. Except it when in as straw colored. Just...

I must admit while loading 9mm a few 380s have found their way through my progressive press, into the mag and into the chamber, only failing to fire from the too-light firing pin strike. Carefully...

My son just did the same in January. Qualified Expert on his first go on a windy day when most others took a pass until the calmer, next day. Now a rifleman at LeJeune. Likely to be deployed next...

Dang!
Tested today at a whopping 27.2! No apparent difference between water dropped and air dried but the heat treat sure made a difference!

Thanks all for the responses. I have some gas check molds and am not concerned about hardness with those. But I do have some plain base that from what I read and from some posts here, might benefit...

Just trying to follow what I read here, in the Lee and Lyman books as well as Fryxell’s articles.
They all say 14 BHN is good to about 20000 psi loads. That covers my Trapdoor and 71/84 needs...

I use magnum shot primarily as my alloy. As is it consistently measures 14.3 BHN with my Lee hardness tester. I am less concerned with the accuracy of the 14.3 as I am with my inability to improve...

Try to determine how deep the bullet needs to go to lube the top groove, adjust accordingly, then push the bullet down and back up slowly. This works for me with lube that doesn’t need heat.
I use...

Just an FYI!
Hodgdon replied to my inquiry about 50 grains of Varget in a 45/70 Trapdoor. They responded that the “Trapdoor” loads listed in their reloading data are for “modern Trapdoor...

The bullet is Lee 90374. 457-405-F. It is in the QL database. If you use QL default data for bullet length (1.020), case max capacity (79 grains water) and Hodgdon's recommended cartridge OAL...

Not sure it qualifies as a nightmare, but after a few days of playing with QL, I came across this anomoly where QL seems to be grossly inaccurate, albeit in a conservative direction.

Lee HP molds don’t work like that.
No way to dip the pin assembly alone, it is attached to the handles between the mold halves.
Thanks all. I have tried mold release spray. No help. I did polish the ring away, no help. I am curious how one would dip just the pin into the melt given it is sandwiched by the mold halves...
I’m embarassed to ask, as a search for an answer came up with nothing which means I am the only one having this problem.
I cannot get my Lee HP molds to release the boolit from the HP pin. I tried...

I tested a slab from my magnum shot melt with my Lee tester. It comes up around 12 BHN but I have reason to believe my tester reads a bit low as linotype tests around 19 and I believe it actually...

Feel badly for the guys at gun shows still pricing bricks at $69 and up. Guess they're hoping for a rebound.
The target grips I got for my S&W 66 are missing the escutcheon nut. All I can find are .230", .250" and .375" nuts. My countersunk hole on the nut side measures .280".
Any idea where I can find...
