I stopped in at McGowan today and ordered up a 1:14 threaded and chambered prefit, #7 contour at 18" They said eight weeks so I'll have to start gathering moulds and dies and such.
Thank you gentlemen for the quick replies. Next step maybe a stop at McGowan barrels. They are pretty local to me and may be worth starting up an acquaintance. Quick and easy will be a Remage set up...
Not sure if this is the right section but; I am contemplating putting together a short bolt gun for a walk about piece. Due to long toed bears and such I am leaning towards a short action 358...
Out of curiosity, did you go with gas check or plain base? I have not yet started down the GC rabbit hole as most of my casting efforts have been either pistol or sub sonic .308.
Thanks much Mr JonB. Very interesting links you provided. Seems those were mostly gas gun oriented moulds. I think I'll be searching for a mould that casts a bit lighter, especially for the Hornet....
Forgive my ignorance but I am unfamiliar with HM2 or Bator moulds. Enlightenment if you please. I am looking to start casting for both the triple deuce and my K hornet.

I knew that Balistol was some good stuff but had never thought of it as a machine/ cutting oil. Great out of the box thinking! Have you found a decent U.S. importer, distributor? Seems the last I...

Forster classic with three way cutters for most of what I do. Also neck turner and hollow pointer. Easy to switch back and forth from hand powered to cordless drill powered.

The B7 all thread is certainly superior to generic plated all thread. I have used it to make dies for forming an re-sizing brass for 44 shotshells. Also a person could harden it after machining....

Another vote for the micrometer seater dies. Hornady also builds a mic seater stem iirc.

Anyone know the thickness of the aluminum Sage checks?

Got to try out my "new" four cavity NOE .30 cal. mould I bought here. Dropped a couple hundred very nice uniform 203gr. projectiles. After a quick PC and sizing to.309 the road testing began. Found...

68 here. Started casting 35-40 years ago but got away from it for years. Life you know. I am currently casting mainly 41 and 44 for handgun, and .30 subsonics.

I quit putting holes in meat critters a few years ago other than maybe a whitetail in the fall for my bride to can. Mostly I shoot steel, paper, and wood with the occasional pest or predator thrown...

Glad you are being productive TX. I was a bit surprised you hit the wall that early with the 7 mag. Personally I have declared a moratorium on working up serious loads with 857 'til the weather...

Much good advice on this thread! Esp. safety related. I have never bolted my lathe (Monarch EE) to the floor but do check level yearly. Aluminum makes for good relatively cheap practice. Your next...
