I often use Felix lube for case sizing.
Similarly, when I am running bullets through a push-thru sizer prior to heat treating, just a trace of Felix lube makes the process much easier.

Where are my hip boots ? Chest waders, maybe ? The BS is getting knee deep on this thread.
Jeez, what will it take to kill these old wive's tales ?
As several posters have noted, it is...

There was no evidence presented to that effect.
If I only hunted whitetail, I'd probably do the same. But out west, the elk and bear seasons overlap deer season, so we load for elk and use...
Whoa !!!!! Slow down and take a deep breath.[smilie=1:
As long as it functions in your gun, who cares what the COL is ?
OK, you make a good point about how seating depth effects pressure (at...

I use Lil Gun in a 357 rifle and it works quite well, though no better than H110/WW296.
Powder charges for revolver cartridges depend on the bullet seating depth. Since cast bullet designs...

S&W barrels are spot on, I wouldn't even bother measuring the barrel.
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
My experience with pure lead is similar to buckshot&brass. Lots of dross that requires frequent fluxing (if you are using a ladle). Lead/tin alloys are only slightly better.
These materials...

Same here, maybe 430 degrees, but that's splitting hairs, since kitchen ovens are not calibrated precisely.
I've never gotten excited about bucket dropping, even though it seems to work...

BIG BEAR, I apologize if we seem to have hijacked your thread. The short answer to your question is that no harm will come from shooting oversize cast bullets as long as they chamber easily.

Wow, that's a very heavy bullet for the 357 !!! :)
Not much velocity but with all those lube grooves and bearing length, it should be accurate.:Fire:

Your Rem 700 has a SAAMI chamber and will indeed chamber a 0.314" bullet, or even larger, but the 0.314" portion probably will not fit in the throat. Throats are tapered and generally 0.311" or...

My 30-06's have preferred 0.314" bullets.
The SAAMI chamber is sloppy in the neck area, allowing bullets as large as 0.316" to chamber before you run out of neck clearance.
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
2" ??? Wow, that is a lot. I'm used to seeing 1/4" with pure lead, and 1/4" is bad enough.
Are you saying that after you clean off the 2" of dross, another 2" soon appears ?
Post a picture...

It has been my experience that the drive-you-crazy oxidation is normal with pure lead and or nearly pure lead.
I thought maybe it was some kind of contamination so I bought some foundry grade pure...

I should add that some tuning is required to feed this bullet.
My Marlin, as it came from the factory, wouldn't even feed FMJ's.
I slicked up the action, oh-so-lightly chamfered the...
