No, but the reaming of the brass to accomodate the 0.311" diameter sounds like a hassle -- there are plenty of 0.309 bullets out there in that weight range.
I test fired some 195gr SNS blackout bullets over 4.5 grains of red dot, COAL 2.125" and got great accuracy -- holes touching at 50yds with an occasional flier. I think the bullet was lightly...
Warning, unpopular opinion!
Why push the envelope? Just load the published 38 load or get a 357 and start at the published 38 load and work up a tad in 357 mag brass.
I just took my new RAR out and ran some 158gr cast over 4gr red dot. What a mild shooting and fun plinking load -- it's like a glorified 22lr. Accuracy was around 1-2" at 50 yards.
The 180xtp is great and shoots accurately in my Rossi. As does the Lee 180GC group buy bullet.
Pretty much any bullet weight up to 180 will work fine, as long as it is running at full power levels. A lee 180 with a gas check is my favorite projectile.
Slow twist requires lighter bullets. I'd be surprised if you get good results with a 225gr in a 1-30 twist.
They've always been good to me, and very decently priced. That said, I cast my own 95% of the time :D
I've never noticed any tumbling in my 357 mag Puma 92 (1-30), and I shoot 125-180gr bullets. The 125 is a lee TC, and I usually load slightly above the 38+p load levels. With anything heavier, it's...
Isn't Quickload's simulation known to be somewhat unstable with straight-walled cases? What did it read out for pressure when the load was reduced by 3gr?
I have a 357AR (the cartridge 350 legend copied) with a 20" barrel and I've drilled the carbine length gas port out to 0.120 for maximum gas in hopes of getting moderate loads to cycle reliably. ...
I also have a 300blk American ranch in purgatory at the moment (California BS). My favorite load so far is a cast and PC 158 gr 30-30 bullet from SNS over 4 grains of red dot -- about 1000fps IIRC...

Do you have a 300blk? You can make some sweet light/quiet cast loads for that cartridge with any of the "dot" powders.
I make tons of 38 special/357 mag plinkers with green dot as well. If...
Forum: Gas Checks
I opted to solve the "problem" of having 1k cast/PC bullets that don't play well with a carbine length gas AR (too light to cycle before accuracy issues develop with the ligher cast/PC bullets) by...

Got it. I've got a few s309 bullets with PB checks seated and sized to 0.311. I'm going to give them a shot at some point.

I'm about to start playing around with the Lee TL309-230-5R in a 1-7 twist. Any tips? I was thinking about starting by dipping the lube groove area in Johnson paste wax.
If they drop large...

It's a well made commercial keel (not home-built) so I'd doubt a commercial keel maker would use scrap or varying alloys for a single keel.
I'm pretty confident it'll be dead-soft throughout. ...

I compared it to some stick-on WW I got from The Captain, and it seems about the same. I have a small amount of Linotype (probably 10-20lb), so I should be able to harden up a portion of it.

That first photo is of the original 12v lights. The 5v lights use the same LED chip, but setup to run on 5v supplied by USB.

The lead can be indented/scratched by fingernail, so I'm thinking it is pure or close to it. It should be good for black powder and low power smokeless loads.

I melted out the bit out of the tiny corner that was cut off with a propane torch and it came out really nicely. It's very soft, might be pure lead. With the dry summers here in CA, it's hard to...
