Handles better than expected! Good balance. Need to add front sight ramp.
Have done nothing other than trimmed off the stock with the band saw.

Thanks for bumping this up! The bbl that I got I purchased from Mr Quackenbush (the air rifle guy). I thought is was for the Mauser but it wasn't... Long story.
I had a gunsmith put it on a...

I do my first melt, when rendering range scrap, with a propane weedburner. By putting a 4" wide channel iron at a 45 degree angle - with the bottom into an iron pot or frying pan - it is easy to...
keep us posted. I shoot the R#1 and an 1885 Winchester that shoot it. My interest is accuracy, at 100 then at 200 yds. Plain based, of course.

If you state the rules BEFORE the games starts, ANYTHING you do is FAIR.
The more I smelt WW, the more I consider BUYING (buy is a 4 letter word) components.
Thanks for posting the link - I'd gotten some at YARD SALES - not a dependable source when you want more!

I do both ladle and bottom pour.
Larger moulds are easier to fill if you have a large flow of alloy. Easy to do with ladle, must adjust flow rate on bottom pour.
It really becomes obvious on...

Zinc can be cast. BUT you have to get it right-much hot. Not easy. For a few dummy rounds you might consider TIN. Easy to cast into a COLD mould. Perfect bullets, but they take forever to cool....
I use Unique (about 10 gr) in the .405 Winchester behind a 40-300 rcbs bullet.
To ensure consistent ignition AND CLEAN burning I use a 3/4" square of paper towel pushed 1/2 way between bullet and...

I use one of three or four lubes - depending on the size of the case and the temperature.
I apply these with my fingers.
Small cases - 50/50 mix of paraffin and Vaseline.
Neat's-foot oil....

Yup it's the standard ingot from Linotype.
What was cast in it is a guess. I have both pure lead and lino.
Good price.
Should weigh about 21-22 lbs; pure lead more.

Tin - under 10 cents a pound as scrap solder.
WW - $20 a 5 gallon bucket.
'pure' lead 75 cents a pound.

For smelting I use two devices. First a $5 yard-sale turkey frier and Second, a harbor frieght weed burner.
Fill the iron pot, put the fryer on high and directly melt the WW or other alloy (I...

Larger in diameter and shallower in depth is good. (more surface area and less vertical distance for crud to float up (with stirring) and get captured by the flux.)

So what loads are y'all using? (Now that I have a 50 Beowulf.) Which (cast) bullets?
