Resurrecting a zombie thread, but I'm starting to look at 20 gauge round balls again.
All the wads in the pic have the stitching intact. The load was not fast enough to open the wads and the OP...
glenr1, have you miked the diameter of the Lee Drive Key molds yet?
I'm curious how they compare to my Lyman Foster slug/
The beauty of the Lee molds, and aluminum molds in general, is that when properly prepped they will drop good bullets almost from the first cast.
The easy place to start is with a simple mold like a Lee .690 round ball, or a classis like the Lyman hollow base Foster type slug. The Lee ball is fast and easy to cast and has a wide variety of...
When casting the balls you will find there is no need to rest the mold on anything.
Do not use anti-sieze on any part of the mold. Once it's hot just use very small amounts of your regular bullet...
I concur with loading by weight, in a wad that will accommodate the load.
My handy chart says one pellet 000 Buck weighs 69.5 grains. Here are the counts in rough ounce equivalents:
6 - 1oz
7...
I understood your post completely and sympathize with your situation, we have wads but spotty powder.
The "drive key" impression on the wad means the system is working as designed. Lee meant for...
Ballistic Products has the shot you want:

It's not in 25# bags but it is very good stuff.
Add a little tin bar solder to your pure lead to get your mold to fill out better, about 1:20 tin/lead is enough. Run the mold fast and hot until you figure out the temperature sweet spot and casting...
Green Dot is labeled as "low-recoil" in 12 gauge target loads but at 28 or 29 grains it will not be low recoil in those loads. A hell of a lot of fun, but not low recoil.
Depending on stack height...
Which wads did you order, and what powder will you be using?
It looks like there are a few of us going down this road, I am starting working on the same thing in my 20's. I was looking at both .575 & .600 RB for use in a shotcup, or the .600 bare sitting on a...
Based on what you have said about the components you have on hand and your future plans, you can load 2.75" fold crimp slugs on your MEC 650 or Grabber. I do it all the time, and if I intend to roll...
Hogtamer, a little off topic, but have you tried the TC/HCD was with a .690 ball for fit?
Every wad I have is too tight for my .729/.730 barrels, but the data I have from Ballistic Products uses...
A light target load of 17-18 grains of Promo will give you around 1150-1200 fps and pretty much duplicate the "Tactical" or reduced recoil factory load speeds.
And yes, your 49.0/Blue Dot will...
Below is a guide to the various straight wall hulls found in the US Domestic Market and Internationally. This guide is by no means complete, so if you spot something missing or incorrect, please post...
My Lyman 3rd Edition has a number of built up loads, I will look to see if there's any pattern to the order they go in.
Ballistic Products has a tech sheet on card and fiber loads. If you don't...
OK, then here's two new ones:
Mossberg 930 or Beretta A300. Both are American made.
The A300 is basically the gas system of the excellent AL391 (I wish I had bought more than one) with some of...
It is safe to cut the petals off flush with the floor of the shotcup and you should get a perfect fit.
9x00 should weigh about 490 grs, 1 1/8 ounce. 8x00 would run about 1 ounce, and you would...
I remember these wads but have never seen or used them, though I am familiar with the point of the adjustable crush section.
I am curious, though: How do you intend to use them with slugs, and why?
They are not the same.
Estates are loaded in Federal paper basewad straight tube hulls. Use Federal Top Gun or "Federal Plastic Hunting Case" data for these
The Winchester Universal hull are...
No problem, glad to help.
I actually prefer these hulls over the AA's. They crimp better and are easier to find. They hold up to several loadings but I don't feel bad about using them where I will...
If these are the red Winchester Universal hulls, cut one in half lengthwise and you will se a separate cupped plastic basewad with a noticeable taper, getting thicker near the base. The color is...
I have quite a bit of experience with the Cheddite hulls, Red Dot, and Unique. I have no experience at all with the CB2118-12 /12S3 wads.
The place to start is to look at weight and fit:
