    .30 Carbine Bullet Diameter?

I reload a lot for my .30 Carbine hogleg (Ruger Blackhawk). I’ve always used a .308” diameter bullets but I thought I’d try a .309” diameter bullet this time. So I ordered a batch of .309” diameter...

    Interesting! This is Starline brass:

    9mm: 0.748 - 0.754 O.A.L.
    38 Short Colt: 0.754 - 0.761 O.A.L.

The result being the 38 Short Colt actually has slightly greater case capacity than the 9mm....

Evidently, ”the Army tried a heavy bullet in the M1 carbine, an M18 152gr FMJ. Even with the much longer barrel and higher velocity than a 7 1/2" Blackhawk, the M18 just didn't pan out”.

    I’d...

I must admit, it seems a bit boneheaded of Ruger to put such a low twist rate (1:20) in a revolver. Especially when that leaves a lot of potential on the cutting room floor.

Interesting some should bring that up: “small case capacity”. The 9mm usually has bullet weights that range from 115 to 147 grains. And yet:

    Doesn’t it seem a bit strange that Alliant recommends 9.5 gr. for a 250 gr. semi-wadcutter and Lyman recommends 4.8gr - 6.1gr for a 300 gr semi-wadcutter ?
