I would check out your local scrap yards NOW to see if they sell to the public. If they do, give them your number and explain you are looking for the lead pipe if/when it shows up.

I too noticed that the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook favored 5744 in many calibers. I was also looking for the powder for well over a year. Finally stumbled across some from an estate sale for a really...

I just found some Winchester 7.62x39 brass with small primers this weekend. It's out there.

I run a magnet over all my brass. Started finding brass washed steel 9mm cases about three years ago. I've also found many 5.56 cases.

For those considering the RCBS bench priming tool (great tool) don't forget to also buy a primer flip tray.

Sorting is an excellent idea.
If it's range brass I'd hit it with a magnet before doing any sorting. There are brass washed steel cases out there. I found over a hundred of them a couple weeks ago...

Don't waste your money on the Lee manual. I have the second edition and they don't have any data for 30-30 Winchester using cast bullets in either 120 grain or 150 grain. They do have data for 160...

"Instant lethality in chest cavity" I reckon lawyers would have a field day if one were to use these in a defensive situation today.
Very interesting item though.

Heads up for those watching this thread. Starline has 45-70 brass on backorder status. Mine took about a week to arrive.

Titan reloading (vender here at the top of this page) has parts for lee pots. Even if you buy a new one you'll have a backup if you fix this one.

I didn't look through it for a parts diagram, but RCBS has the Green Machine on their website:

The cast bullets will look and seat shorter than jacketed. I don't have the Lee 160 grain, but I do have the 150, 170, 180, and 200 grains. I seat mine to the top of the upper band. Start with a...

As for the bullet being shaved you need a Lyman neck expanding M die. Cast bullets run larger than jacketed. The M die will expand the mouth of the case with a step. I adjust mine so that the bullet...

Looks like you have the sawdust and candles in a cold pot. Try melting the lead before adding either, you should get better results.

With shipping and taxes mine came to $70.00.
Edit: Mine was a custom sized die. Yes, I agree standard sizes shouldn't cost more than $20.

I have it, but I'm not sure if it would be legal to upload it to this site.

My guess is fired brass, deprimed with a universal deprimer. Wet tumbled and primed. I've found a bullet will drop right in a fired case. I see the fine print (upper right on the card) says "100%...

Nice work. That is a very accurate bullet, I've shot thousands of them.

I would try opening the valve on the 4-20 a little more, it could be that you're not pouring fast enough. Lot of good information from other members here already. Try changing one variable at a time....

Lasts 3-4 years for my casting pot.
