Alliant lists a charge of 4.4 grs for a 98 gr bullet. Thats the only load they list. For my 32-20 loads for Cowboy shooting I load 3.3 gr 231m or HP38 for 115 gr bullet.

The load I use for SASS in my 32-20 hand guns is 3.3 gr. of 231 or HP38 which gives a velocity in the 900 fps area.

For my Rossi 45 colt I load a 255 grain bullet over 6.2 grains of 231 or HP38 and have no problems with blow back and my brass is not sooty.

Your Hornady set is most likely a set that was for the 32-20 Contender which used a .308 bullet. I use an older set of RCBS dies to load my 32-20 ammo which work just great.

You should not compress triple 7 as you would a black powder load. You would measure by volume the same as for black. You can check the Hodgdon web site for load info.

The Marlin Safety marking on top of the receiver does not indicate that it has a two piece firing pin. My 1889 Marlin has the Marlin Safety on the receiver and it has a one piece firing pin.
