Funny you said that. My son and I are building spears right now. I’m probably getting a bit old to sit in a tree with a spear but I suspect it’s in my near future.

The reason I joined this forum almost five years ago was to understand if I could build a subsonic gun and round that would reliably take deer. The industry has come quite a ways since then, but I...

Late last season I hit a deer high with a too hard cast HP, so had a bit of a tracking job in front of me. I didn’t have anything to mark the specks of blood a few feet apart, and found myself...

Yes up to 21k in the New Vaquero. I’m pushing that HP with 10.5g Longshot.

Thank you. I’ll trade you a hunt for a few of these central TX whitetails and even throw in a pig and airfare both ways to let me tag along on one of those elk hunts

Since I fell into and in love with a baby vaquero in 32 mag a few years ago, I’ve been bound and determined to build a smooth action, fixed sight big bore and a couple loads that it would shoot. ...

45 yds, GT 255hp @ 925fps. First deer with this gun. First shot through the spine. Recovered bullet is from the finishing shot and was in the skin under his jaw.

Didn’t really know where else to put this. Please move if necessary, thank you.
I’m posting this on two forums because I’ve learned so much from the members on both that I want to recognize those...

Fred, I studied these extensively when deciding how to have him HP my mold. They really helped and I ended up with a boolit that performed exactly as I’d hoped.
Forum: Cast Boolits
Larry, I tried a number of loads in the 32 using both cast and jacketed boolits prior to sending to Doug. I still have the targets with load data on them, so I’ll load a few of them up and report...
Forum: Cast Boolits
I don’t have a “before” for the 45 as I hadn’t shot it prior to sending it to Doug, but below is the last session I shot before sending the 32 off. The groups are numbered by powder used and are a...

Yeah some of mine were smaller than .451 as well. I didn’t even shoot the gun; sent it straight to Doug for reaming. It’s not fun to me to use a tool that doesn’t serve it’s only purpose for...
Forum: Cast Boolits
Yes both groups around 2”; I’m not done with load development for either yet. The 32 throats were .309, reamed to .3125. The 45 throats were around .451, reamed to .4525.

Had DougGuy ream the cylinder throats on an older baby Vaquero 32 mag and a New Vaquero 45 colt I just bought. I’d say it worked. Thanks Doug!

That's a beautiful boolit, thanks for sharing. I love the mold I have from Accurate for my .44. Unfortunately my time is fairly limited at my current point in life and I'd rather spend my free time...

Yes I have some of his SWC. Nice boolits. Looking for a bit wider meplat if I can find an accurate one.

Thanks Doug. I looked at those based on some previous comments on this thread and they look fantastic. Have you shot to see if the OWC holds its stability at extended ranges? I did see the boolit...

Does anyone commercially offer a plain base 45 colt boolit with a WFN around 250gr and cast relatively soft for lower velocities?
Forum: Cast Boolits
Yes I’ve read this and don’t doubt it. Bear in mind I’ll be adding an 8”, 1lb suppressor on the end, so that should tame it down some. I also anticipate shooting 200g Boolits for fun and the 350g...
Forum: Cast Boolits
Agreed on the H110 not being the best choice. My concern is case capacity with the 2400. I’ll be limited to just under 17g without going to a compressed load, which I have no experience with. I...

Thank you for the intel. I’m particularly interested in the data with the H110 and the 4” barrel. I suspect I may end up using H110 in some capacity based on my experience with it in 45 colt, but...
Forum: Cast Boolits
Hi lar45, yes it’s a fun project. I spent quite a bit of time and money over several years in research, testing, having a custom mold built and shipped across the country for hollowpointing,...

I spoke with the manufacturer and no limit on length. Thanks for the link, it’s helpful. It goes along with my suspicions, that I can probably make a 6” barrel work but not sure about much shorter...
