I concur, ndnchf. The effort and time you’re going to put in (not to mention the expense) ought to have more than mere curiosity as a driver. Of course, if you have a bad case of Elephant’s Child...

The one I bought way back when was a straight shank for a 1915 Favorite. The only description in the catalogue was “Favorite Barrel Replacement,” no model specified.
I think there may have been...

I have a Stevens 044-1/2 in .22-15-60 Stevens caliber. Cases are hard to find, unless you go to Rocky Mountain Cartridge and spend the bucks for turned ones.
So far it’s been easier to get good...

I’d always heard that the Officers’ Version had the corkscrew while the Enlisted Version just had the can opener/church key.
Can’t beat the price on that one!

The pump action Stevens Gallery #80 could be ordered in .25 Rim Fire. I’ve seen exactly one of these in almost 50 years of Gun Show attendance.

Growing old ain’t for sissies, as my old (less than my age now) Shop teacher used to say.
You might check with an osteologist. When I had pains in my leg, it was because a spinal disc had retired...

I’ve got a bunch of those kind of projects, at various stages of completion, all over the place. When I “hit the wall” (ie, am hesitant to proceed further because I’ve encountered a tricky stage...

Looks shop-made to me, if so, obviously the maker was very good. Has kind of the look of a Dunbar press, especially the lube fittings, but IIRC the base of that was a casting, and the press itself...

I bought a replacement 1885 coil spring from DZ Arms for $35. It looks like your picture.
Installation is covered in one of Campbell's books on the Winchester Single Shot. You need to grind a...

If you’re a BPCR target shooter, you want minimal expansion of the shell upon firing, so it’s a mechanical fit in the chamber and the boolit can be seated by thumb pressure, or (if you’re into it)...
Forum: Swaging
My sophisticated annealing technique for .22 RF shells is to wad them up in a piece of aluminum foil, throw the foil ball on the coals in the charcoal grill after grilling is done, cover the grill...
Forum: Swaging
I always anneal the .22 RF cases before derimming. Even with lubricant, the punch would break or tear the shells at the rim when I tried to push them through the derimming die without annealing...

Could the "6mm" stamp actually be a "9mm?"
There were BB and CB caps in several sizes, apparently, back in the old days. Here's a tin of 9mm "Rundkugeln" compared to one of 6mm "Spitzkugeln."

The yellow crust is likely Litharge, a lower oxide of lead.
As the oxidation level goes up, lead oxides turn red, then brown and finally black.
It looks like someone built in an “auto-eject” feature, where the base swings out as the handles are opened, hopefully carrying the casting with it. Does it work?
It’s a pretty cool idea, anyway.

Well, I was hoping to follow the other Match with a tale of soul-stirring Triumph at the Quigley, but alas, it was (mostly) not meant to be.
Got into Forsyth the Wednesday before the Match, just...

I’ll have to post it under the .44-2-1/4 thread, as that is the rifle I used this time. Still getting my momentum back up on my home projects after the trip, so haven’t had the opportunity to write...

I only anneal the cases I use for paper-patch loads before each reloading. Expensive cases (either in cost or time to make) I anneal at the beginning and end of the reforming process, and only...

Pin gauges in the bore (or leade) are the most convenient way of measuring bore diameter, although some people are pretty good at measuring the grooves between between the lands of their lead barrel...

For grease groove boolits, the standard trim-to-length in the books (~0.005” shorter than nominal length) is fine. Your 2.095” brass is right in there.
For paper patched boolits, 2.095” is about...
