Scout,
my load with a Lee one ounce slug for reduced recoil is: AA hull, 20gn Green Dot & Win. pink wad. Certainly milder than any factory slug. Don't know if it would cycle an auto. I use them in...
waco,
6.2gn is listed as maximum for a 240gn lead projectile in .44 Magnum in our Factory load data.
Hodgdon Clays is our Aussie AS30N. Very similar to Red Dot in burn rate.

RJ,
Hodgdon International Clays is our Aussie AS50N, with a burn rate similar to 700X, AA5 and Green Dot.
AS50N is the same as AP50N - just a bit bulkier for shotshell reloading.
It's considered...

Mike,
I reloaded for my Steyr carbine the other day with loads using the Lee cast projectile, Lee Alox and a 32 gas check.
The often quoted 17.5gn of 2400 was a dissapointment, with quite a lot...

Guys,
for years I used .220 Swift brass in my T38 rifle and carbine and it worked great, though labour intensive. Norma brass is always undersized for some reason.
NNY 6.5 Jap brass is great.

Bill,
you sure that's a No.4 Mk1 ? as Lithgow only made SMLE No1Mk3's.
Can you tell us of the markings on the butt socket ?
Kirby.
Stanley,
I used the Lee bullet for my Walther PP .380. Works great.
You won't need hard cast if you use Lee Alox lube with the .380.
Just found the mould in the shed the other day !

Congratulations Mike,
you have a "Savage" Rifle No. 4Mk.1 - a fine battle rifle.
Two groove rifling is original to Savage built rifles.
Enjoy !

Thutty,

Guys,
I'm lucky & lazy.
My Enfield shoots 4" groups @ 25 yds with a .357 diameter 158gn lrn.
Average 600fps.
Adequate for my needs.
You may want to just go out and try some in yours.

Any limitation on how thick you can go with paper or plastic ?

It has a replacement barrel by Sportco (Locally made in the '60's).
