you only need 2% tin to fill out the molds, and tin is the most expensive part of a boolit. try and not overuse that stuff!

shotgun lead generally hardens the batch up a little bit from the extra antimony in it. this is alloyed into the shotgun lead so the pellets will stay round and hold a better pattern when fired.

range lead should do you fine for expanding bullets.

dont touch battery lead! melting it will release loads of toxic fumes. there's a reason that stuff is processed outside of the US.

are you lubing your die? every so many bullets you should put a bullet thru that has a little something to help it go through. or you can 2 step size, but that's a hassle.

you should be good as long as it's not an uncoated/jacketed bullet. the idea is that cast boolits leave lead deposits that can seal up the bore causing a Kb from overpressure. coating prevents that...

i agree, its something that works great on mags or general gear but i wouldn't do my carry glock and expect it to stay on. now taking an old 870 and camoing it for duck season? why not.

casting can be portable so long as you're not having to haul around lead! i guess you can do it if you know sources of the good stuff near your destination.
