Copper tubing, cut to short lengths, flattened at each end and filled with lead in the middle. Brass bearings are an unnecessary expense.
Or, large caliber copper plated bullets.

Nobade, congrats on the successful 45acp cartridges! What's your cleaning method like?

Very cool!
Looking forward to the crimson results.

Running a purge of the size needed for a lead pot would hardly represent any danger at all, unless you're doing your casting in a broom closet. But, I agree, it's completely unnecessary.

I got impatient and tried grinding freshly pressed pucks. I had a lot of buildup of fine material sticking in the grinder and rather than shattering the puck into well defined granules, it seemed to...

Great point about bullet weight as it relates to cycling the action in an auto loader, Sandro.
Also, excellent photo documentation of the cooking process. It looks like the 65/35 or 62.5/37.5 are...

I don't think the bullets I was using carried enough lube. Still shopping for the most reasonably priced .454 mold with a generous grease groove.

What kind of grinder are you using? I use a galvanized cast iron grain grinder, I believe many others here do as well. I get about 35 to 40% each of 2f and 3f by running the mill pretty coarse,...

I've explored the idea of running BP in a 45acp 1911. There's enough case capacity to load cartridges that will cycle the gun properly, but blackpowder fouling builds quickly and brings the gun to a...

Excellent point. When considering the manufacture I did take for granted a ball mill and press. I had really only considered availability of ingredients, which I think is actually better for BP.

Been watching all of your Golden powder activities with great interest.
I don't see a tremendous advantage in it, so far as the manufacture, BUT the ultra low fouling characteristics of golden...

The final stage of sizing any cast bullet is done in the barrel of the gun it's fired from.

That Darned dirty capitalism!
I wish the government would seize the means of production from all these greedy business people and distribute ammunition and reloading components equitably! What a...

I'd like to like your post. But I can't, so I don't.

All other things being equal, if you're loading in a cartridge, density of energy to volume matters.

Are you moistening your meal before pressing?
I wasn't doing that for a long time. When I started misting with distilled water just until there is no dust from stirring, I get significantly higher...

What's "need" got to do with anything?
Forum: Black Powder Cartridge
Hot water washes and neutralizes the fouling. Dry patches to dry the gun. Oil to protect after. I use mineral oil. It's inexpensive, non toxic, doesn't hurt the furniture and doesn't turn to tar with...

You can just boil the manure and nitrate rich soil in a pot of water with wood ash. Filter the sediment while the water is hot. You can boil off the remaining water, or if you prefer, chilling the...

In this very thread, guy asks question and is immediately asked "Why would you want to do that?" The implication being "That's a stupid idea"
As if in order to get a straight answer he...
