Thanks for that.
I supervise the construction of commercial buildings but I have an extensive background in residential work. I'm seriously considering a change because these layoffs happen too...

I will do a write-up, with some pictures.
This will be a nice diversion for me; I've been laid off for over a month and have been working on my house. I look forward to time at the loading bench...

Just had that conversation with Popper on the sidelines. I ordered a Lee "soup can" 7mm, a .285 sizer and some gas checks from Midsouth. Have been reading and saving load data for light cast in that...

Did you mean to say you went with the WT?

Hickok,
Great handle, BTW!
I'm very curious about the Shooter's World powders, like this one that mimics 1680: http://shootersworldsc.com/D063-02/
Powder Valley carries it; maybe it will...

Only supersonic.
Another concern is twist; the WT has a 1:12 twist, which I'm sure is much more cast-friendly than the 1:7 or 1:8 used by the BLK. I'm sure someone could make me a 300 BLK barrel...

I have a Stevens 200 (Savage 10) in 7mm-08 that I want to convert.
As configured, the 7-08 creates a lot of recoil for the lightweight stock and sporter barrel. Darned thing just jumps off the...
Thanks for the replies
I only used the mold once and only cast maybe 3 dozen boolits. Everything is tight; the problem is definitely the alignment pins.
I'm glad to hear that Lee...
My group buy .357 mold has it's outbound alignment pins out of whack. The 3 end bullets drop with offset bullet halves; the first 3 seem a lot better.
I've heard Lee is too busy to turn around work...

A Rhodesian Ridgeback, not a pit.
Nice pointer - Where'd he get the duck? There's still leaves on the trees!

If this has been posted before, I apologise [smilie=1:.
I really like this approach, and his formula (I'm tempted to throw in 10% JPW). All neat and tidy!
He doesn't mention sizing though, so I'm...

Thanks for the replies, and the effort that went into them!
I'm looking to pick up a "cosmetically challenged" Winchester 94 in .30-30, and do a barrel swap in .38-55.
This has been encouraging. :-D

Thank you! I look forward to seeing your post. :drinks:

What steps are involved in installing a new barrel on a Winchester 94? What needs to be done to put an AE barrel on a non-AE reciever, and vice versa?
What a great place - every reply helpful!
Thank you gentlemen, Very much!
I've got some experimenting to do. I'll post results with pics soon.

Jeff,
Very cool!
What powder were you using?

Thanks for the input, and the reference (which I'll read tonight).
I've never used fillers, and recall hearing warnings concerning their use and possible barrel damage. What are the rules concerning...

I'm considering a new mold for my .38-55 Marlin CB, possibly the Saeco 225gr. I've been warned (on another forum) not to expect good things from a plain-based boolit, cast from wheel weights, at...
Thanks for clarifying.
It's sounding like the way to make this work is to neck size the brass for better bullet pull.
I may as well try black powder while I'm at it.
Right. So I'd get a tighter crimp, without squeezing/resizing the entire neck?
Great input, thanks. I suspected it might have been a BP mold.
It's a 245gr. bullet.
I thought about the FCD right off, and that the as-fired brass wouldn't give enough neck tension. I use FCD's...
I did slug the barrel (.381), but haven't done a chamber cast - I was hoping this bullet would obturate if cast from WW, and pick up enough spin. Hard cast box bullets just don't shoot worth a darn,...
I bought this Rapine mold over a year ago, and just got around to loading it. It has two unusual features:
1) the bands all measure .379, except the rearmost at .380
2) there is no crimp groove
