Too little pressure makes sense to me. That manual is 18 years old. H110 and W296 are, in my mind, magnum powders for .357/.44 (among other uses) but not for .38.
Now here's a different twist....
Forum: Our Town
I was looking through a 1987 Speer reloading manual at the local shop- and found both 296 and H110 as powders recommended for +P .38 special rounds- velocities were roughly equivelent to Blue Dot...

Hiya DMDRacer,
I've cast a bajillion .38 wadcutters- having both 10-cavity and a 6-cavity H&G moulds. I like slinging those 500 pound moulds for a couple of hours- makes a good case of carpel...

Al,
My epiphanies generally come about after two cups of coffe and in the 2nd stall while reading the Chronicle's Op-ed page.......
....while not at all detracting from your gene theory IMHO 1...

I dunno. I've nothing to compare results- no experience base 'cept as a kid I shot 3/8 inch groups with a scoped .243 and 75g JHPs. The velocity is simply a curiosity- what makes the threshold...

My work is literally the last resort- headed west that is.......

Actually I'm looking at the Carolinas- I work with resorts for a living. There's quite a bit of money to be made in CA- I can do my time here and move on.
Fellas, thanks very much for your...

Just this past Friday I joined this honorable fraternity of milsurp bullet casters. If you don't mind I'll set a while because my rifle casting experience is all of about 120 rounds. I do have some...

Very much appreciated Bass....I can't buy it right now but next month I'll order a copy. Software that is predicated on internal pressure with all the variables mixed in? $150 is cheap!
Forum: Our Town
Sure....go ahead and rub it in.... :) My only positive comment is that the 17 mile strip of beach that my resort sits on attracts some of the most "healthy" looking women on the planet........

Lawdy Lawdy how I love this state! No such thing as personal liberties, $2.60 for a gallon of gas, 1 shooting range within 50 miles. If I had to buy my house again in the same neighborhood there's...

Many thanks R*2.....that was easy to order the form. Now I wonder how the good ol' state of California will enter the picture........

Bass,
Noticed your input on the trailing .338 thread. You speak well of a software pack called Quickload. Who? Where? What site? I've heard of it in passing but dismissed it as a reloading...

Could very well be Scrounger. Low bidder is low bidder. I also thought that the A3s might have been issued to National Guard units not yet deployed.

20 or so years with pistol 'cause it was a whole lot cheaper. As some may have noticed in my most recent posts, I'm bran' new to this rifle casting thang. Bran' new as in no more than 200 cast...

Chargar,
Thanks very much for the recipe information. Why do you find it necessary to have the entire case filled (I'm assuming that's the goal with the shot buffer)? Way back on Shooters there...

Thanks Chargar- I know now you're right- rifle bullet casting is where the art truly lay. I must've cast tens of thousands in every pisol caliber, but nothing as intriguing as casting for rifle. ...

Oh yeah....thanks very ^%#$@* again! I knew about the .308 an' .243 ('06 being the parent) but now I gotta get a Swede and a 7x57. While we're on the subject of 7x57- was there at one time a...

Bruce, the W.C. Fields quote is directly on point. I put no more than 100 rounds through the old 1894 and that was it- hooked on centerfire rifle. I'll still do lots of pistol, but casting for...

Well folks, you finally did it to me.....after 3 years of hanging 'round talking about pistol bullet casting and listening to the milsurp rifle casters, I dun bought an 03A3 (Remington). Now for...

Thanks Junior, you just gave me a good reason to blow another $40! I think there might be something with the rifle itself- the barrel is smoky- I'm in the process of cleaning it out via scrubbing...

I was fortunate enough to find (on Ebay) a 6 and a 10 cavity- both H&G .358 WC. They're simply outstanding. I use them together- heat is a challenge if you don't have a hot plate to place the...

Great thread. In my first sessions with the low serial 1894, I tried Unique, Red Dot, H335, IMR 4320 and IMR 3031. The bullet is Lee's version of a 311041- 170g water dropped and with a 10/1 ww/sn...
