I used to work in a sawmill years in Montana, with my dad. He was foreman on the planer crew. I remember they had a melting pot of babbitt that they used in casting those for the planer knives.
For a quality built gun 2k rounds is just getting broken in. Should have a long life of use with it.
Looks like someone's private color coding system. Could be to distinguish their brass when shooting on a common range with others. Could denote different bullets, powder charges or primers used. ...
Not aware of any way to reload them. Because of the plastic most places don't want them for the brass, so only thing I've seen done is some keep a few as a unique item, but most just throw them...
Those are from Simunition paintball rounds. The paint capsule was held in the plastic mouth.]

You can soak the primer in oil, and let it set for a day or two. This should deaden the primer. One of the old manuals listed soaking primers in oil to dispose of old unknown primers.
I'll check if one of my manuals contains the load data for that round. I used to load 200 grain SWC for a 45 Colt load, they were the same bullets I used back then for 45 auto. It's been close to...

Go with the sling, you can get the gun onto target quicker if a shot becomes available while you are hiking to your destination.

Very nice find. Several friends have them. I haven't been able to talk them into parting with one of theirs yet, but they do let me shoot it occasionally. I keep hoping that one of these days...

On the RCBS Grand loader pick up a couple of plastic caps to put on the hopper drain ports. Reminds you to make sure you put the hose on before you empty the shot onto the floor.

Nice looking saddle racks. They don't look like they belong out in a barn.

I agree with Alvarez Kelly. I own a RL550B, but I don't own any Dillon dies. I already had RCBS, Hornady and Lee dies when I bought the Dillon Press. For the calibers I load on the Dillon I just...

I'll have to try this on some old cruddy brass laying at the range and see how it turns out.

I've heard, from a lot of old timers, mercury will get all the lead out. But then you have the added aspect of dealing with the mercury.

Beautiful rifle. You don't see that kind of craftsmanship very often. I'm sure your friend will be happy that this rifle is in the hands of his close friend who will appreciate it.

I don't have one of those, but I do have a small magnifier with the clamps that act as extra hands. I have been considering picking up one of the illuminated ones to clamp on my bench.

Enjoy your new rifle. May it be everything you want it to be. May it shoot straight and true and have no recoil.

I hadn't heard of this before. Thank you for sharing.

May you get as many years of dependable service as the original owner did with the old 30-30. I agree keep it oiled and keep it the way the receiver looks now.

I got started in reloading in Colorado in the early 80s, because the department had a Star set up for .38 special. Got the bug and moved on to buying my own reloading setup and then got a...

Rock River Arms uses a spiral roll pin, they insert easier and there LPK's have a nicer trigger on several kits that I've installed. First decided if you want a milspec tube or not. Consider a...
