Take a piece of electrical tape or masking tape & tape around the rod at the muzzle, bring the two edges of the tape up & pinch...

110gr 3fg shoots excellent out of my 1:48 twist traditions barrels. I do not push them that fast however as its not needed. 70gr 3fg and shes perfect on everything from hogs to elk.

i wouldnt worry about the face of the bullet, it happens even with a patched round ball.

hunt my area, you'll become a believer.

if you hunt out west and go hunting mule deer or elk without a cap on your rifle, you may as well stay home because you wont have the to fiddle to cap and then try to take aim and shoot.

Once I drive to my hunting area and get out, I cap and start my hike. You're on half cock which is basically our safety.

Just to show you, but this rifle took 6 grains 4fg in order for it to go off reliably and instantly. Anything less and it was a flash in the pan due to how "high" the vent location is....
Forum: Muzzleloading.
thats not as low as it looked in the first pictures. One of my rifles has the pan almost level with the bottom of the vent hole and she shoots just as good as the "properly" set up rifles.
If you...

Keep it simple, a little bit of crisco or your favorite patch lube on the frizzen spring and lock internals and you're good to go.

oh okay that one. Its more of a sabot type for the round ball.

minuteman products still sells the poly patch material.

a felt wad IMO is a great thing to use. #1 it adds extra protection to your patch and allows you to shoot a little more powder without fear of blowing out patches. Felt is naturally flame retardant,...

standard 1/4x28 nipple by TC arms VS Navy arms nipple.

Forum: Muzzleloading.
you are incorrect. Navy arms used heavy duty breech plugs in these rifles due to the massive amount of powder they use. The rear sight is NOT factory, thats why it looks further back.

Swiss emailed back. I find it hard to believe that 3 different brands of guns hate swiss powder? Especially when they all shoot different projectiles. There's no way I would be able to hunt big game...
