The gun had a broken stock and many years ago my dad gave it to a cousin to put it back together. The cousin died on us, and the buttstock and barrel are all we could find in his house after his...

I gave up and just bought 38-55 brass. It works just fine untrimmed in my 1894 Big Bore Winchester.

So, this has come down to me in pieces, with some lost. It's an old family gun, otherwise I wouldn't put this much time and money into it.
This is the lock we're thinking may work, but I'd like...

Wolfdog,
I definitely qualify as an old guy, and that meme is funny!
Thanks. I'll try that bullseye load.
Does anyone know of a powder that will have most of the case filled and still give good results with reduced loads in slow twist barrels?
I'm looking for...
Larry, I've been looking for a 22lr equivalent load for my Savage 340. What powder were you using here?

Better pics. I'm leaning towards a 1795. I posted these to another forum and that seemed to be the general consensus. 299392299393299394299395

I at first thought it might be a conversion, but flintlock conversions usually have a small insert where the pan was. There is no evidence of that here.

I don't have access to it right now. I looked it over pretty well in bright sunlight and couldn't find any markings.
I'll try to take another look next time I'm over there.
I'll get some better...

I noticed this leaning against a customer's fireplace. She inherited it from a relative, with no information as to provenance. I could not find any markings on it. Appears to be about .68 caliber.

Very nice. I'm about to try cast in one of my 06's. What kind of velocity are you getting?

You should be able to find Catalpa around Cordele. We grow it here for the caterpillars that live on it, they make excellent fish bait!
Check with some old school bream fishermen in your area.

I agree. That's probably the tip of a paleo point. Very old.
The alloy calculator has COWW at 12, and I was expecting quenched pure COWW in the 17-18 range.
Haven't tested any yet, but I'll post the results once I do.
