Why not drop a step in caliber to 32? Honestly, for most chores in town or woodswalking in this area a 32 H&R mag will work just fine.

38 Spl is fine for paper punching and rolling rabbits. For SD it's 357.

If I need more than that, I go up in caliber.

I heard the same from a guy yesterday. He just runs his 6.5 Grendel into a 6mm ARC size die, trims, deburrs, loads and shoots.

Speer 14 shows 2.1 - 2.3 grains with their 98 grain HBWC in 32 H&R Mag.

I felt the same way about the 338-06 and finally found one I could afford. I love it.

I have burned a lot of W231 in 9mm. With a 122-125 gr bullet, 4.3 to 4.5 grains runs the G19 and G17. The Sig P320 needs a .357-.358 cast bullet; .356 gets about 3 of 10 that will tumble and hit...

I've been loading 6.0 grains of 231 with bullets 210 - 250 grains

The 2021 Hodgdon Annual Manual lists a 245 gr. SWC with 18.5 - 21.0 grains W296.

I got a pound of it free with a coupon when I bought something else, then shortly after it was discontinued. As I recall, I wasn't that impressed with it in 30-06 with 180 grain bullets.

700X works great for 38 Spl loads, and it's real economical, too.

The only powder I ever used in 8mm Mauser was IMR 4064 and it did everything I wanted it to do.

I have the Western 1 manual. Under the 223 Remington section it says:

Chronographs aren't that expensive. Buy one and check the velocity yourself. We can't rely on Larry for everything...
