Simple solution is to procure more brains. Put the word out to your buddies who hunt that you are in need of brains, I bet you'll have plenty in short order. In the past, I have frozen them for later...

I really don't see any advantage to a blade longer than 3-4 inches for the purposes of field-dressing game. Butchering, sure, but not field-dressing.

That's a good idea, thanks. I'm kind of torn between keeping them for a rainy day and just selling them off to someone who will put them to use. Really worried about that structural integrity of...

Thinking of liquidating my small stockpile of WW. I'm getting ready to move and the idea of not having to drag lead with me is sounding pretty nice right now. What do you guys consider a fair price...
I'm considering doing this with a 3" GP100. Clements Custom Guns does a conversion package. A little pricey, but I'm sure it's nice when it comes back.

A Remington 572 can be found in that price range used. Pump action will feed anything and the stroke is short enough that rapid fire is possible if that's your thing.

I can attest to the effectiveness of brain tanning. It works surprisingly well, the only real downside I can think of is the smell. It's one of those smells that you just can't seem to get off of...

After some serious looking, I had some luck at a couple of small shops in rural areas. That vast majority of the shops are too afraid of the EPA (or whoever) to sell lead to individuals. My best...

I stumbled upon a like new 1975 (pre-safety) Marlin 336 chambered in 30-30 in a pawn shop awhile back and practically got it for a song. I love that rifle. It's just a great no-nonsense brush gun...
The P226 is the only semi-auto that ever fit my hand perfectly. From an ergonomic standpoint, it couldn't have been designed better. If you've got a good one, hang on to it like your life depends on...
I'm a big fan of short-barreled revolvers in general, even ones I don't use for carry. I also think that the N-frame is extreme overkill for the .44 special. With that in mind, I have to give the nod...

Another late arrival here. I grew up in a suburban home without guns and had fairly liberal parents, so I missed out on learning to hunt from Dad. Like many others, I bailed on the white-collar...

Sadly, I think this is the type of environment we all hunt in now (your case is an extreme example, of course). It's a shame but spending time on public land has become less relaxing than it used to...
In the context of semi-automatic firearms, DA describes, an action whose trigger both cocks and drops the hammer/striker. DAO is typically the same, but the hammer cannot be cocked for single-action...
I think this is why I'm so luke-warm to the idea. I'm just not a big fan of the .22LR any more. Blasphemy, I know. I understand what people like about the caliber, I'm just kind of over it.
Meh. Agreed, it's not something I feel the urge to go out and grab up at that price point. I'll stick with the Bearcat. Still, it's nice to see Ruger produce an offering in the DA plinker/kit gun...

Your mistake here is trying to understand VA policy and procedures. The VA is like any other large government agency, you can't reason with it and you can't apply logic to it. Usually, unless what...

Very cool. I didn't it realize until your post, but I don't think I've ever seen ground footage of a B2 at low altitude. Your video really shows the profile well, almost disappears head-on.

Yeah, I think the "little guy" is still the best bet in getting lead at a decent price. I had one big-time scrap dealer (the person answering the phones couldn't tell me anything and they had a...

Whatever the EPA is doing to discourage people from selling me lead, it's working. I persevered and kept hitting the tire shops and finally found a few that would give up the wheel weights but that...

Armadillo holds the distinction of being the only game I can reliably catch/kill with my bare hands. They're so oblivious/blind that it's amazing that they're not extinct. They're my go-to meat...
Thanks guys/gals. I was looking at the normal Lyman handbook and didn't realize there was a separate cast bullet handbook.
I'm looking to pick up a reloading manual with a good selection of cast bullet loads, especially Ruger-only .45 colt loads. I currently use the Hornady handbook but the cast bullet loads are pretty...

Great thread. I will be doing my first smelt in the near future and the tips/advice/lessons learned being shared here are gold. Thanks to the OP and replies. You've have saved me time, frustration,...

You make a good point. Maybe buying some known alloy to ease the learning curve while I find sources for wheel weights is the way to go.
