I know IMR PB powder is mostly used for shotgun shells. I'd like to use it for reduced loads in 30'06 and 308W and 7.62X54r. Does anyone have experience using it with cast bullets? 102 grain, 155...

I placed an order a week ago and received no response of any kind. E-mails and phone calls have also been fruitless. Has anyone done business with them (successfully) in the last month or so?

I know this is an old post, but I'm hoping Yancy is still around. I'd love to hear about your "go to" load.
Thanks Cat.
It looks like they eliminated the top grease groove which I don't think is really needed anyway.
123798This is my mold and the bullet it casts.
123799This is the mold currently on the market with the same RCBS mold # . What's up with that, they change the mold and used the same # ?

Thanks Evan. I went to the range yesterday to test some loads I'm working up for a 1911 and took along the BP pistol. I had forgotten what a mess those things are, but it was fun.

Everything is stored in 1# lyman ingots. Soft lead is stamped w/ a star, WW is unstamped and WW w/ tin added is stamped w/ a T. Reversing every other ingot , they stack very neatly and stable on the...

I'll read those links and see if I can find the RCBS book.
The gray/ silver makes sense now,
Thanks guys.

The last 5 gal bucket I picked up, once separated, cleaned and processed into ingots, yielded only 25 lbs of useable WW material. This anti lead movement is really starting to effect my supply.

1. Is there some guide/ correlation between temp and "as cast" size?
2. Why is old lead gray and the stuff I cast silver?
Thanks for the input guys.
Did you guys use RB cast of pure lead or of wheel weights /Lyman #2 ?
I load cast 230 grn (Wheel weight) bullets in 45 acp and I cast round ball 451" 140grn (pure lead) for my 44 caliber black powder revolver. Has anyone ever loaded cast round ball in 45 acp ? I can't...

Thanks to all for your input.
Bumpo,
Thanks for the calculator and the info on the solder and formula. I'll try the 2 oz /8.5 lbs first and see how the bullets come out. I'll increase...

I tried that first. The only thing it came up with is, info about the company, nothing about the solder itself.

I have a 5 lb spool of solder and am wondering if it is suitable for casting. I use WW and would like to use it to aid in fill out. It is :

BD,
How do I go about slugging/finding the throat size in my 1911 barrels?
I have pushed a soft lead slug thru the bore from the muzzle end to the chamber, and measured that, to get a .450"...

Thanks guys, I do appreciate all the advice and help. I'm going back to what I know works.

Bret,
The barrel slugs at .450" . I'm not sizing them. I did a random sampling to come up with the .452" size. I have a .451" sizing die, perhaps I should try that.?

I've got about 1000 of these casted up. You think I might get away with using Unique just so I can shoot them up, as apposed to running them back thru the pot?

Thanks for all the replies. I'll look at all those possibilities, make my changes one at a time, and let you know how it works out.

Few shooters can be really effective with just the pistol grip on a shotgun. A good option is a stock with a pistol grip. I did try the pistol grip only. I took it to the range and tried everything...
