Ok. I like the longer bullet as it will sit closer to the rifling. These are 44 - 370 bullets I cast in RCBS mold with very soft lead. They fit into a fired case right from the mold. So I should get...

Quick question. I fired 404 gr bullets with 77 grains ffg. I noticed one slightly swollen cartridge base. Perhaps I didn’t have bullet directly on powder? I want to load the bullet out a bit further....

Marlinman, thank you for your advice. I agree, stock to barrel fit is more important than barrel band to stock. I’ve put layers of aluminum foil in stock groove at barrel bands. Front and rear bands...

Thank you! I added some more aluminum foil in the barrel channel and tapped the barrel bands in place. The middle hand was not tight enough so I tapped in thin wood as a wedge between band and stock...

So a screw goes through the bottom of the stock into the lug? See the pic of the lug on my rifle, it just sits there by itself. Was epoxy bedding a permanent improvement for accuracy?

Hi, thanks for your info. I’m not sure where you put the tape for a snap fit? I have three barrel bands to fit tightly into place.
Forum: Single Shot Guns
I guess I could either shim the bands or I could use something between stock and barrel to make the bands tight. Maybe aluminum foil in the stock groove where barrel bands sit? I could make it so...

Thank you. There is a small lug screwed onto the barrel with a corresponding recess in the stock, but no place for a pin. It appears my only option is to work with the the bands & stock so the arm in...

Good job! It is a challenge to shoot on a steep grade as the bullet knows only horizontal trajectory. I hope to harvest deer with my old Remington RB in 43 Spanish. Heavy bullets have a whole lot...

Thanks to both of you! The barrel bands are solid with no screws. There is a spring loaded bar which protrudes from the stock in front of each band but there is still play. I’m going to remove the...

Thank you. Barrel is 33.75 inches long. Three brass barrel bands and brass end cap near the muzzle. Do the barrel bands alone secure the fore stock? I see a small hole thru the stock just behind the...

Shot at 50 yards today. 404 gr soft lead over 77 gr ffg Goex black powder. Large rifle primer. Thin card over powder, compressed mildly. First four shots grouped poorly and seemed low. I raised rear...

Pouring 76 grains by weight of Goex FFg black powder through a 23 inch tube fills a case to the point where seating a bullet would compress the powder mildly. I will try this load. Unless you all...

The rifling scuff mark is visible in the pic.
Forum: Cast Boolits
The cast bullet fits very snugly into a fired case and chambers freely. The rifling marks on the bullet when I pushed it fully into the chamber are .12 inches long. Should I then seat the bullets an...

Ok, I used a jewelers scale to weigh the boolits on the gr setting. Grains, I presume. The cast boolits mic .445. I’m ok with them being long because they won’t be seated very deep in order to be...

I cast some soft lead (reclaimed lead roof vents) boolits with an RCBS 44-370-FN mold for my 43 Spanish. I expected them to weigh about 370gr but they weigh 404gr. What am I missing? Secondly, my...

Ya, decided to ask questions. I tend to take forums like this for granted, but it wasn't too many years ago there was not such easy access to such a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Funny. I never saw the paddle store on the way up the creek. Hmmm.

So petroleum based oils make black powder fouling hard. I use modern oil in the bore after cleaning it. I suppose it contains petroleum products. Is it recommended to wipe the bore with something to...

I use a vege fiber overpowder wad. I don't use a lube cookie...yet. What is a blow tube? What about running a wet solvent patch down the barrel between shots?
Forum: Black Powder Cartridge
I think the inherent accuracy is there because the first three shots grouped just over three inches. So there's potential. It's just that the more I shot, the wider the groups got.
