I am not going to breech seat the .45-70, but I wanted a better mold than that god awful Lee, the Lyman is not much better.
I just bought a custom Hoch .32-40 mold 195 grain. Yet to be delivered.

Anyone hear of a Custom SAECO Pope style nose pour taper bullet mold?
Any information would be welcome. I have searched and come up empty.
Value? Thanks in advance.

SOUTHERN SON, check post below "My shot at home hollow lube." Ecellent examples there, in particular the last one. The one I did was a learning experience with problems now corrected. Good luck.

Hey squid1230, I was REALLLY happy to see your post on the black Lyman lube not sticking to the boolits. Not glad that it happened, but that someone else had that problem also. I had EXACTLY the...

Melted the monotype then recast 67 ingots (RCBS ingot mold) today, Learned a couple things.
First; Monotype does not cool as fast as lead. It looked solid, but when I dumped it out of the RCBS...

Four inches seems to be the norm. Mine are a bit longer at 5" and fit the RCBS Lube-A-Sizer just fine.
As mentioned in previous post, future effort(s) will entail the use of rubber stoppers to seal...

kbstenberg, Really glad you were not hurt, but that IS funny.
Remember people, you MUST know what you put in that pot to melt.
Way back in 1969 or so, I droped a defective .44 hollow point...

Well, all I can say: Y'all need to come to Blue Springs Missouri. The recycle center still has 2 large rolls of sheet lead available for .40 cents a pound. They probably weigh about 100 lbs EACH, not...

I have found it quite easy to get pure lead, ww, mono & linotype at the local recycle center. Sure, it costs 35 to 40 cents a pound, but many times it is already cast in ingots of 1lb and some as...

lwknight: I know, I have already bought and cast to .45-70 boolits about 150 lbs. Also, Pioneer gun club sells indoor range recycled lead for 18 cents a pound to members only if you help collect it....
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
I guess .35 cents a pound for monotype was a pretty good price then? Monotype is listed as: 10% tin, 16% antimony, and 74% lead.
Advise for all: Check your recycle yards for scrap. I paid $22.00...

Picked it up today, Saturday, 27-Feb-10. 54 lbs of monotype and 10 lbs of wheel weights cost $22.00. Only the larger wheel weights were selected. They allowed me to 'pick & choose.'

I am going to adjust the process a bit when 'redoing' it. Will still hold the PVC pipe in wood, but will plug the bottom with a rubber stopper and melt the lube in a hot pot / cup. Somewhere here...

WOW! Thank you guys. Did not realize monotype was that scarce or desireable. They also have wheel weights at 40 cents a pound.
I have bought about 150 lbs of pipe and shower stall sheathing lead...

Okay, gonna jump into it. I have read all over the place about: Monotype - linotype - pure lead - wheel weights etc.
To sum it down for this village idiot's understanding, should I buy the 50lbs...

Well, here is my stab at the homemade hollow core lube. The mix is 50% beeswax, 40% crisco, and 10% canola oil. (Measurements were guessed at.) Photos show how I 'cast' the tubes of lube. Works OK,...

Quick follow-up. I did not have the box the RCBS dipper came in. I was stating what was NOT on the dipper itself. I paid $10.00 for it at the MVACA Winter Gun Show in Kansas City. It was new and...

I could never understand the point of adding color. I have a mix of beeswax, crisco, and canola oil. It is a nice 'mellow yellow.' :lovebooli

Storydude,
I know you are absolutely right about that. It is near impossible to find American made products without Chinese parts of some type included or exclusively. But we must TRY to buy...

Fred is right, that mix has proven itself over the years. That is what I am going to use. However, I intend to mold that mixture into hollow sticks for use in an RCBS Lube-A-Matic. I have already pan...
