Spit coffee all over my desk. Thanks for the laugh.

Original Poster here. I never brought shotguns into the conversation, that thought brought into the thread by another poster. Interesting side conversation though.

Thanks to everyone who replied. This is a fantastic resource to glean information from those who get far more experience (shooting pigs in this case) in one season than that I will get in a...

The lever gun I have is an older Marlin 336 in .30-30. Not sure what I'll stoke it with yet as far as factory or reloads. I have some lead boolits ~165 grain something or others in .30. Can't...

Happy Independence Day! Thanks all for the advise & comments.
Off to the range later today to get some more practice with the .44 mag. I'll definatly take lots of pictures and post a few when we...

I’m heading to Florida sometime in the first quarter of 2014 and will be taking a side trip looking to take my first hog, hopefully more than one. I would like to use a revolver, crossbow and/or...

If solid lead, it's likely a downrigger weight. What do you Arkansas boys know about ice fishing anyway ;-)

Thanks to all who responded.
Geargnasher, I didn't have access to a vise so I laid each pig on the floor of the garage and was able to easily crack one of the ears off each with a hammer. Looks...

Now THAT was FAST, thanks. I guess I owe him now. Sure glad he didn't make decoy anchors from them.

My buddy was cleaning out his garage and set these aside for me. About 26 lbs each and 26 inches long. Its pretty hard, and has a ring (as opposed to a thud) when tapped on the concrete. I thought...

I was gonna say belly button height. But that's about the same, for me anyway.

I agree. As you can see, the number on the mold is pretty clear. I wonder if it is a variation of the 90312 or maybe something that was custom ordered a little different. Does Lee even do that?
Forum: Cast Boolits
Thanks for the help.
The 90314 appears to be a .38 wad cutter design. I took some calipers and it measures ~.359. Have to cast some up and weigh/measure what comes out of the mold to be sure.

A while back I bought a bunch of stuff from an older gent that was getting out of reloading. Among the stuff were the following 2 cavity molds:
Lee 456 220
Lee 90314
Is the 456-220 usefull...

On a tangent, this reminds me of a short story by Patrick F. McManus in one of his collections called "Never Sniff a Gift Fish". The story was titled "Poof-No Eyebrows" and is absolutely the...

I picked out maybe 6 pieces of plastic, the rest was all lead foil.

I was due for my "bite wings" x-rays. I asked dental assistant who took the pictures what they do with the lead. She checked and gave me all they had, 44 lbs worth!
Sorry flash created orange...

Thanks. I think that gives me a pretty good starting point.

I'm in Michigan, rifles are okay "Up North". Must be the bow hunter in me, never thought of shooting one in the head. If one were to run across a buck with a really nice set of antlers, would the...

Question for you guys that shoot a lot of deer. I'm looking for recommendations on moulds (molds?), alloys, and loads for the above gun (mid seventies vintage). Ranges of 25-100 yards, 125 tops. ...

243winxb, thanks. I'll see what size they come out of the sizer before making any changes.
Echo, thanks too. I'll add radiator shops (for solder) to my stops next time I'm making the rounds of...

LLS, based on my limited time lurking here, I figured we (friend & I) were onto something really good. If I listed everything and told you the price for the whole lot, it would probably break your...

Thanks Storydude. A dust mask is a great idea I hadn't thought of for cleaning the casting pot. You definatly saved me some lead intake. I'll search on beagling & Lee-menting too.

I picked up some used casting gear from an elderly competition shooter/retired LEO who is getting out of reloading. He said he is at the point where he will be buying factory ammo now and his kids...
