I have a good supply of COWW's and use that for slower pistol bullets. I add a pound of linotype to 9 lbs of COWW for anything over 1000fps up to 1200fps. Over that I add more linotype. Like you I...

I would use those ingots ONLY when starting with a cold pot OR melt them all down and remake the ingots, again with a cold pot to start.
Thanks for a good story. My hunting days are past, but I do plan to go with a friend in another week for his cow tag.
I like a head of cabbage soaked in water for a reactive target. Explosive!
I've bagged 2 mule deer with the 10mm, 180gr XTP. 65yds and 30yds. Neither went more than 10yds. Bullet worked.

I use one for brass. 480 seconds several times and it does and acceptable job. Not SS chips tumbled clean, but it works for me. Wish it had a longer timer :)

Redhawk....do you have a sizer .431? I don't, but I have a 240gr mold I could cast some for you if you can size them. NOE 240-432 mold. I have 215gr SWC, 260gr SWC as well as the 240gr sized to .430.

Lots of memory lane posts here. I started casting in 1971 when I started shooting bullseye pistol. I had been reloading pistol a shotgun for 6-7 years. Mostly learned on my own by reading everything...

I use the NOE 460-350 sized .459 in my 1895 Marlin. I crimp in the crimp groove with RCBS cowboy dies and have had no chamber problems. Hope your new molds solve your problem.
I did an Excel spreadsheet when I updated my firearms insurance. I did share it with my wife.

Safety has got to be at the top of your list. I would buy some jacketed bullets and lern to be a good safe consistent reloader BEFORE you adventure into casting! Read aa few reloading manuals. They...

My basement stays pretty cool so I can cast in the summer. I do most of my casting in the spring and recently lube/sized 47lb of 9mm and 18lb of 380 bullets.

Good watch and my thoughts are what would I do? What would MacGyver do? After some thought I think I'd start from scratch, building the base of the form on an I beam.

I think your alloy temp may be too high. It could be a contaminant too. I've had this before and used the alloy without a problem.

Lakehouse.....I hope you have more supply coming. These are great to work with! I use a Horrible Freight vice grips as handles for mine.

I cast a lot with straight COWW without the extra tin. I cast in the 720-740* range with steel molds. My suggestion is to be sure you wait long enough for the sprue to set, break the sprue then rap...

Larry....Thanks for the post and the testing. Good information for all of us.

Midway had a few 6.5 bullets over the weekend.

Not a straight wall, but .30 Herrett uses a shortened 30-30 case with smaller powder capacity. Also not a straight wall, the 300BS (Bellm-Steyr) made by Mike Bellm uses a shortened .307 (rimmed) or...
I use AA5 for a lot of my pistol rounds and don't find it to be dirty. With that said, I do load mostly heavy for caliber bullets. AA2 is a lot like Bullseye and works great for 38 special wadcutter...

Self taught with a lot of reading. No internet then (1970). I finally found an LGS owner who cast and he gave me a lot of tips.
Yes, my first reloads were from a hammer loader from Lee in 38spec.
Thanks Larry for the great info and explanation. I shot a lot of the Skeeter loads in the late 70's and early 80's. Sadly my aging body won't handle the recoil anymore. Good memories!

I use my 45/70 mold 480gr and a small muffin tin for 2oz.

I marked for years with a Sharpie or magic marker. Discovered after many years the writing faded and disappeared. Now I use letter stamps. The CAST BOOLITS/REDNECK GOLD ingots are EZ, just stamp your...
