I would have to disagree expansion is the key. Because that's where all the energy comes from that creates the wound channel. That is what I have experienced muzzleloader hunting every season...

I have a pair of high temp gloves that I use. I forget what I paid for them but well worth it. Good up to 1200° but only for minutes at a time but enough time.
I don't think you need to pull it apart. Just clean it, heat cycle and cast away.
I shoot the lyman #311465 threw mine with a couple minutes of angle at 100 yards.
They drop at .315 and 128grs out of my old ideal mould which I size to .311

Lyman #311465 works really good with 17grs of wc 820 in the 7.62x39!
The newer version is 158grs and the nose is slightly different.

I took 8oz of beeswax to two bottles of LLA and 4oz of paraffin plus 3tsp of Stp oil treatment. Seems like it will be a good pistol lube for pan lubing.
