Looks like I've generated abit of interest! Just weighed them they come in at 141gn so probably not too far off what the lead bullets weigh and the alloy melts at about 900C.

So I cast two .457 round balls in 9ct yellow gold and thought I'd share it with you all. And no I will not be shooting them and I wouldn't recommend it as they are waaaaay harder than lead....

Had a good day at the range today probably shot 50+ rounds through my sharps with hitek coated soft lead projies with no leading and held all but one of my scoring shots on the 1000yd target. First...
I've been using the non stick coated pans for awhile and they work great. No prep needed just got to be careful not to bend them when picking them up to empty them out.

The weaver k series is guaranteed to hold zero for 10000 rounds of 375 h&h. I've only got mine on a 223 but I've never had to adjust zero over the years and I've dropped it a few times.

I've loaded 155gn round nose over a nice slow powder and got 1200-1250fps. Goes off with a nice kaboom compared to the little nine mil.

Ahh that explains why he hasn't answered my emails this week. Thanks for the update!

Did you make that Rick? How does it shoot?

I've had great success with 30grs 2f under a patched ball in my Lyman .50 and it's still doing over 1100fps so it is more than enough to poke holes in paper at 50yds.

I don't run a temp gauge I just go and start casting and get it working. Degrease the mold preheat the mold in/on the pot and start casting quick until you get full fillout and try and maintain that...
Forum: Cast Boolits
Clean the mold thoroughly and make sure the lead itself is hot enough for a good fill. I cast 500gns .45s in a five cavity yesterday and the only trouble I had was keeping the mold cool enough to...

I've always had trouble with the heavy 500gr bullets getting rough coats or coating not sticking well. Yesterday I cast up a heap of 500grers with my new NOE HTC mold and coated 2.8kg with only 2.5ml...

When are the cases crushing? I load the 44/40 on there and haven't crushed one yet. I have over crimped the 44/40s on old stretched cases so they won't chamber but a quick adjustment fixes that.
I...

I like that green! I think I need some more colours now.

If you are actually melting the copper into the lead by using the welder does it actually replace the tin like the chemical swap of using copper sulphate? I would think that the molten copper would...

Try dropping them straight from the oven into icy cold water on the last coat. Helped me with 9mm as it needs a hard alloy to not deform in the case and is a fairly high pressure round.
I've used the lee 120 tc standard lube groove with great success in both. I've probably cast 20000 with my mold and it is on it's last legs now. I found this bullet releases a smidge easier than most...

Do the groups open up significantly at longer range Larry? Say 500-600yd with the 14" twist in your experience?
Forum: Cast Boolits
44man is there a way to determine the optimum twist rate for certain ranges or is it a try it and see type of deal?
Forum: Cast Boolits
I've been contemplating the same thing. But I want to shoot 1 inch projis at about 2000fps or maybe slightly faster if I can. I'm leaning towards the 1/14 twist as all the calculators and threads...

I can't find the manual on there either now. It looks like they have got a new manual out and the only way to get it is to buy it or use the online version and print the pages you need.
Forum: Cast Boolits
Pretty sure the manuals are free to download off the adi website and it's a very comprehensive compared to some other powder companies.

I normally coat once then size and do a final coat to cover any blemishes from lead flash etc from poorly cast bullets or roughness from an unpolished die.
I used to get leading problems like that...

I use the lee 500gr in my pedersoli sharps and have had great success out to 700yds with smokeless powder pushing them a smidge over 1400fps. Going to be trying them out to 1000yds soon.
