The 1860 is nicer to load and has a blade vs bead sight. It's also a 44 which I find to be a bit more accurate. For CAS, 36s just don't knock down the steel like a 44.

Well, I ordered an extra seater plug. I'll cut it back to where I can then drill/tap for a 1/8-32 bolt to go in then loctite it in place. Then do the same with the 7075 seater nose "bank" I will make...

That 1/2-20 (NF), correct? I see this listed, but, I wanted to be 100% certain....

Does anyone know what the comparable machine screw would be that fits the RCBS dies for 357/38?
I am thinking of making a few custom ones on the lathe. Then use JBWeld to make an epoxy filled base...

Silver bearing solder is only 3%, if I remember correctly.
Silver SOLDER for gunsmithing or such is 7% or more.
I will say this about silver, once it had it fluxed and the mold upto a temp that...

Just ... dont' ... yuck!
Well, I nearly ruined a lee bottom pour 10lb pot and all but made a complete mess of my casting bench.
Silver on its own is impossible to "cast" as a bullet. It needs...

I have 150lbs of "hard" lead (just needs some 50/50 bar solder from time to time) and 80lbs of dead soft lead. Another 80lbs of Lyman #2 and some 25lbs of friggin hard lead from recovered trap/skeet...

I love my jap-win 1886 takedown. Its 45-90 and brutally accurate with both black powder and smokeless loads.
It took a whole summer of trial and error to find both those loads that work best, but,...

I had really good luck with both goex express FFg and pyrodex select FFg granulations.
I tried FFFg of goex and goex select and although velocity was higher, SD was erratic and accuracy went down....

These are heavier and thicker than winchester but I need some for my bpcr guns.
Any tips for annealing shorter cases?
For 45-90 and 38-55, I chuck it in a lee trim case holder and spinit in a...

+1 for going with a Marlin 45-70 over 454 for a levergun.
Three main reasons I sold my Rossi 454.
- OAL for the 454 is pretty finicky on the Rossi
- 45-70 has more bullet options on weights
-...

Same boat, but other direction!
45colt with a 255-275gr is about perfect for most short range game and still big enough to crack a skull.
But if the choice is between 45colt and 357magnum for...

If you are going to load with a crimp groove, you need to know the length of brass you will be using with your chamber. Get a chamber cast before buying a bullet with a crimp groove!!!
Otherwise,...

I had a custom mold made for me by MountianMolds and it shoots GREAT!
My problem is my chamber is cut for "original" case length, which is 2.125" and all the factory Winchester stuff I was finding...
This is the mold I am using right now and I size it down to .309 for the time being.
I seat it to 2.54" OAL and use regular Lyman Ideal lube. I am using Hornady gas checks. I size to .311 then...

I have oven heat treated rifle bullets for years using #2 alloy and using a good quality rifle lube, they work well in my mg Marlin barrels.
I use a gas check, so I really don't see much in the...

The best mold I have seen for shooting reliably the 38spl through a rossi92 is the big lube bullet develped by snakebite.
I bought a few hundred of hem when I used a 38spl for CAS and it cured my...
I vote for either W231 or Bullseye. Both will do 830fps with the lee 225gr TC or the 230gr RN TL boolits out of my 1911 and Ruger P90.
I don't even water quench my subsonic boolits these days.....

historicfirearms,
My first guess with your m92 is that it might be the gas ports or your spring is too heavy for the loads.
Another thing is that you might need either a faster or slower...
