Some good advice below. For long range extra investment can be worth it. I do like Leopold products and use them the most except on me single shot classics where Unertl still looks best.

I like the fixed 10X like the older Weaver T-10 model. Have one in use for several years. See what you can find used or borrow to try out to meet your needs.

I have two variable Sightron that came on rifles and appear to offer good service. Seeing how they compare to my Leupolds this year.

I used one for a while but always went back to small binoculars. Use what works best and get the results desired.

Some interesting information in the responses. I have a Check 527 in 223 that's very nice. A grade higher than the Serbian one out there. Am interested in iron sights down the road.

Have not used or even seen one of the Hawk scopes. Be interesting to hear more results from those who have them.

I agree with your statement. Over the years I have had nothing but great service from Leupold and come scopes have been in use for 30 years without a problem. Great company in my opinion.

Either should work fine. I prefer fixed power depending on use. I do agree with some of the comments the 3-9 fill the bill as varible scopes go..

The inner tube works fine. I actually only use iron sights for M.L. ers.

Have had the same luck for many years from Leupold. Best company for scopes in the US hands down. Heck there still in business after many others have faded.

Can't go wrong with fixed power scopes. My favorite are Leupold 3X and 4X for hunting and 12X and 4X for target work. Great company to deal with if you have a problem.

#1 Pass it on to a collector and replace it with a "shooter" in your choice of caliber. Might try J bullets for fun or slug the barrel and whats left. Good luck.

The 38/55 will do fine in most cases. The 40 straight cases work well and can be formed pretty easy as can the 40/65. Pay attention to bullet weight as that has bearing on recoil. Start easy and work...

Ed's Red will do it if regular cast bullet solvent on hand does not do the job.

Can't go wrong with starting with 10-11 grains of Unique. Almost any weight bullet(400 grains or less). I n my opinion lighter is better than the 500 or so bullets. The rifle bore size is critical...
