I got .430 and .452 dies for my new RCBS LAM today.
I made a flat top punch myself.
Lubed a handfull of 45 Colt boolits..
It works very well.
Nice looking and clean rounds without any mess.

Yes the plated bullets goes into the melt.
Does the copper effect the lead hardness even though it does not melt at this temperature?
I got a good deal on an RCBS Lube-a-Matic.
Now I need top punches for Lee .430 310gr. and .452 255gr. boolits.
Both are with very wide meplats.
Can I just use a flat top punch?

The plated bullets are swaged too.
Haven't thought of it that way.

I know for sure which bullets are being used on this indoor range.
75% is 22LR and 25% are plated handgun bullets.
I use it mostly for my 45 Colt unsized and it works just fine.
I was just...
To be on the safe side I will downsize my boolits just a hair.
I want them to be .430 after sizing.
My Lee .430 sizer leaves them 431.
I will get a lube sizer on of the days so the question is...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
I have measured the cast boolits as well.
Same hardness as the ingots.
I filed a flat and put them in the V notch as to the Lee instructions.

Hi guys.
I borrowed a Lee hardness teste from a friend the other day.
I did some test on some of my cast boolits and also on ingots both made from range lead.
I was much surprised that my cast...
Hi guys.
I have decided to buy a lube sizer.
The choice is between RCBS or Lyman, with or without heater?
An additional question:
Can I use a .454 sizer die for lubing .452 boolits or will...
Silver Jack Hammer,
Thank you for the explanation.
Which is why I asked the question in the first place.
As I wrote in the first post the boolits are just touching the throats and has no...
I did some more testing with the 1200 fps load today.
Many of the cases will fall free of the cylinder without using the ejecting rod.
Is this a false sense of security?

Larry,
You already gave me the answer in another thread but thank you for this reply as well.
I worked up to 8.4 gr. whitch gave 860 fps but I have backed off to 8.2 and this is just short of 850...
I always chronograph when working up loads.
The 1200 fps is measured out of my gun.
I could not find any data for this boolit/powder combo but 1200 fps should be possible within SAAMI pressure with...
I have not slugged the bore yet but I will do so shortly.
I have used 3 different bullets in this gun:
Magtech 44 special CAS loads (just to get more brass).
Plated .429 240gr. swaged bullets....
Hi.
I am working up a load for my 6.5" S&W 629.
I am using the Lee 310gr. boolit with GC run through a .430 sizer and cast to 318gr.
The boolits come out as .431 but my cylinder throats are...
The gun laws in Denmark are not in the shooters favor.
We can only own 6 big bore handguns but only two revolvers in the same caliber group.
I own three revolvers, two of them in the same group, a...
In the VV manual there is a single load with the slow N105.
If I run the start load (14gr.) with my Lee boolit in Quickload I will get 1000 FPS and 15000 PSI and a charge density of 70%.
Maybe...
Thanks for all the replies.
Very interesting reading.
I really don't want to push the envelope and and risk any damage my fine Colt.
I just want a smokeless load that dublicates the original...
The SAAMI max pressure for 45 Colt is only 14000 PSI while the ACP is rated to 21000 PSI.
The Colt SAA cylinder cannot not be compared to the one of a modern quality revolver.
I am also told that...
Hi Patrick.
VV is known to publish rather hot data.
Not so many lawyers in Finland I guess ;)
I wouldn't dare to put 9.6gr. Tin Star in a SAA.
The Tin Star max load is over 20000PSI in...
I worked up to 9gr. N340 today.
895FPS from my 5.5" barrel.
Tried some Tin Star up to 8.4gr.
This gave 855FPS.
This was with an COL of 1.555" and a 265gr. cast weight.
Next time I will go...

What was the OAL of those rounds?
Is 18,200 psi safe in a Colt SAA?
I do use Quickload end have done it for years.
I currently have v3.3.
I find it excellent for developing rifle loads...
I did a test yesterday.
The Lee bullet has to be seated rather deep to a OAL of 1.555" and is cast to 265gr. so I started low.
I testet up to 8.2 gr. this time and this gave 765fps.
Recoil feels...

That itself is impossible but I do try to limit my stock ;)
