got around to firing a few more test shots...
all were loaded with 16 grains Trail Boss

whatever form of brain fade I succumbed to, who knows- but a 30-40 Krag will not work for 43 Beaumont.
loaded up a test shot of 348 Win. brass yesterday, that will chamber- did not fire it yet....
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
here's the test shots for today
left to right:
8mm Lebel case, fireformed once previously, shotgun primer- this time no tape
(2) sleeved 45-70 shells, fireformed once previously- this time no...

in the first thread, what started out as 45-70 sleeved/fireformed to 43 Beaumont, morphed into 8mm Lebel fireformed to 43 Beaumont...along with 43 Spanish and other vintage 11mm shells being cut...

stand them up in an old frying pan with water level just above the rim about 1/2" up. heat the neck/mouth area with a plumbers torch all around circumference, until it lightly discolors bluish...

I've made 6mm Remington, 7mm-08, 308, 35 Whelen, 7x57, 8x57, 9x57, 270 Winchester, 280 Remington. But only onesy twosy cuz this case head family is so darn common. it's kind of a no brainer. the...

ps- the rest of the 8mm Lebel ammo, most likely they all have bad primers too...pulling all the tips, dumping the powder, converting them all to shotgun primers, to make 43 Beaumont....this is a...

Seeing the Lebel case fireform so easily to near net size, got me thinking, how would a 348 Winchester case loaded with trail boss/cast lead work, simply fire formed in the Beaumont ? my hunch is,...

here is a comparison of the 8mm Lebel fire formed case, to others cases.
compared to the 433 Egyptian unfired, the sleeved 45-70 fire formed case, and a Starline brass 50-90 that has been fired 4...
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
this was a pleasant little surprise- the annealed 8MM Lebel cartridge, fireformed to a nearly perfect 43 Beaumont case- albeit to a 1.940" length. these will work, the bullet will have to jump that...

the split SFM case, and broken in two "1887" case
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
well the rain stopped and I got out and fired a few more test cartridges
all the old 11mm ammo did not work out.
the SFM marked shell that I reloaded with Trail Boss and a cast lead bullet,...

the Egyptian brass won't be fired, nothing to prove there.
the 3 old 11mm cutoff shells will be fired today. pretty sure they will fireform, unless there's a brittle case issue again. I did not...

The 433 Eqyptian shotshell brass loaded up easily, with a boxer primer, 16gr Trail Boss, and a cast lead bullet. Those I don't have to fire, I know they will work.
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
one of those old loaded 11mm cartridges I cut off to fireform, had a jacketed bullet. jacketed bullets were introduced to deal with the higher pressures of smokeless powders in the late 1800's. not...

got a few more experimental shells to test fire in the Beaumont chamber, loaded them up yesterday. hopefully will have time today to try them out, weather permitting. it's been raining a lot lately....

I think we all still are doing it for the same reason today...
it sort of like cheating death, but it's cheating "the man" on a small level...
ammo costs money and pull the trigger "bang" it's...

then run with what you have, based on your own needs. if you have 8x57 neck it down to make 7x57, if that's the rifle you have. I would not resize a lot of it, cuz eventually I think you'll run into...

take a loaded 30-40 Krag round, compatible with the strength of the action/gun you are using (BP or smokeless)- see if you can chamber it in the rifle, cuz the Krag rim may be wider than the...

(chuckle...) so true !! I have a Tupperware can full of milsurp 7x57 in the basement, that I paid 33 cents a loaded round for. I've been giving it away to my nephews 50 rounds at a time for years,...

just make sure you full length resize down all the way, when making 7x57 from longer brass. back when I was 14 years old was hunting with a Ruger M77 7x57, my Dad made a few 7x57 cases from 30-06...
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
ps- FWIW you might try full length resizing 7mm-08 with 7x57 die, and firing it in the 7x57, see how much it may grow. the 2 cases are very close in length and same caliber.
