I am a No.1 collector as others here are, those are beautiful guns.

Because "40-40" sounded too much like 44-40 is what I have come to believe. Someone else may elaborate.

Very nice write-up, there were a number of things I learned. Well done!

1927, the M is an inspector stamp, the lever boss code/year-date stamp started in 1949 with "A".

Years ago, I was a dedicated levergun collector. Savage 99's, Winchesters and a handful of Marlins filled my gun safes. Then I had the misfortune of handling and buying my first No. 1. In no time,...

Couldn't agree more, I have killed many deer with mine. Paid $225 OTD for it------about 40 years ago. As to the 338 Fed., I have a 99E .308 that I have always wanted to make into one, just never got...

Quality cartridge called me to say they are running new 375 Win. brass, just a heads up to those interested. Ph. # 301-373-3719

There is no number one in 22 Long rifle. That was a typo and a big mistake by them. Unfortunately.....

[QUOTE=richbug;4208370]How about a date on a 99F, 308w, 1033XXX. I can't make out the lever boss code.[/Q
Should be an "M" LBC, 1961, tang safety.
Forum: Leverguns
David Royal has published a fine book on the 99 with LBC code and serial number history, among other things.
Forum: Leverguns
1977 is the date of manufacture. The letter is in the serial number, not part of the lever boss code/LBC which is a different matter. There is no LBC in 1977, 1967 was the last full year for that....

My Big Medicine rifle came in today. It's unfired but that probably won't last forever. I have always wanted a .405 and did not have a stainless/laminate version of the number one. If anyone uses ...

I'm not sure what you can push a regular 94 up to, but if it was MY noggin' 6-8 inches away from where all that production was happening I would err on the side of safety. Might I recommend a 38-55...

Because they didn't make the '92 after about 1945 therefore no option. The '92 is the better pistol caliber rifle, '94's can be hit or miss on feeding short cartridges.

JES rifle reboring at www.35Caliber.com 541-942-1342 can help you out also.

The Big Bores are nice guns, I have seven of them so I guess you could say I'm partial to them. The .375's can range in price quite a bit, but they are extremely well made. Finding ammunition will...

A fellow on another forum has just received his, along with pictures. So apparently they are starting to roll off the line.
Forum: Single Shot Guns
Yes it has! Those are my two rifles. But the OP wanted to know what rifle-#1 or #3 would be best and that was my, somewhat obtuse, response. :) After rereading my post I tried to make it clearer....

186019The #1, and it begs to be chambered in 6.5x55.
Forum: Single Shot Guns
If you like the .35's as I do, you MUST have both!

Oh, that might be me. After a number of distributors posted they had received emails from Lipsey's (I saw an email) stating the number one would no longer be produced, some of us passed it on. Ruger...
