If hunting with cast, I like the .45-70 with wide meplat bullets. I usually load them hot, but there’s no reason why you couldn’t load them to trap door velocities. 405 grains at 1300-1400 fps.

Center of the body, broadside, trying to hit both lungs. I try to stay away from the shoulder as it ruins a lot of meat.

Ideal placement would have been 4” or so lower. That being said, perfect shots don’t always happen and it worked out in the end.
